Why on Earth did the pilot fly the plane that day? If he was so concerned about the condition of the plane, surely it was totally irresponsible to even consider it?

The pilot wasn’t even authorised to carry a passenger. Then there’s the weather conditions. Why the haste for a nighttime flight? I can only think it was the lure of money he was being paid. But those who engaged with him were culpable as they should have checked he was authorised to carry passengers.

A very sad tale and awful for the victims and their families.

Unfortunately, statistics tell us that there are not a few accidents where the pilot did not have the qualifications to fly or the license, as in this case where he could not carry paying passengers and moreover did not have the night flight qualification.

Starting from this case, I find it unacceptable that there are no checks on the pilot/s who do not have licenses/qualifications, and you authorize the flight.

Avoiding any plane crash due to the lack of licenses or qualifications to fly should be a priority, and I believe that there must be a database for pilots where there are the licenses/qualifications acquired.

With the obligation to provide the name of the pilot (s) who will perform the flight, the authorization to fly should only be granted if after a check on the database the pilot is eligible for the required flight.

A few years ago the husband of one of my wife's friends was killed in a plane crash.  He was one of four people in the Piper Aztec.  They were all real estate brokers.

They flew from Roswell to Las Cruces for some kind of meeting.  On the way back the pilot flew through a thunderstorm and the aircraft crashed.

It turned out the pilot did not have a multi-engine rating.  He was not authorized to fly that Aztec.
