Just google Download Process Monitor (MS SysInternals) for starters it is a MS product so they should pop up on your google search. After you've installed it let me know and we can proceed with guidance. DevMode is part of MSFS. It's under General Option>Developer>turn it ON. Then, in one of the top bar drop downs find FrameRate, and that will display frame rate and other information in the upper right part of your screen. Thanks Noel, I appreciate your help. I have to leave the PC in a few minutes for a little while so I may not get right back to you. I’ll get that program too. But lemme ask you a question, why is it in Windows Security if I turn off Real-time protection and reboot it comes back on? Also, I look at Event Viewer a lot and I noticed a pattern. Under Windows logs, under Application, it seems I always have a bunch of Security Center logs and the time stamps show them 30-60 seconds apart. Jack Sawyer
October 14, 20223 yr Hi @Noel I have the program unzipped on my desktop but don’t know which one to run. There’s three, Procmon, Procmon64, and Procmon64a so I haven’t run any of them yet. Jack Sawyer
October 14, 20223 yr I've seen a couple of things also cause this. A USB Peripheral and the cache folder/drive for flight sim. If you have a decent Internet connection and name drives I'd disable any of the disk cache stuff in flight sim. You may not need it.

I have AT&T extremely fast fiber/Ethernet direct to the PC. I disabled the Cache in-sim and it still does it. I just now even disabled the internet connection in-sim and same. Ran MSI and temps are 38C on the desktop and 54C in-sim. I guess I could unplug the powered hub which has two SSD drives attached to it. The only problem is I don’t know if one of the external SSD’s has the sim installed on it. I have VirtualFly’s RUDDO pedals, Yoko yoke, and the TQ6 throttle. I guess I can unplug them too and use the Xbox wired controller to see if it still pauses. Jack Sawyer

I don't think you even have to reboot it says it will remain off for a short time, or something along those lines. Well that's hopeful so perhaps you can look into turning off logs sent to the mother ship. In other news, on the advice of a friend I installed a game called Skyrim and played it for a while, not one stutter or pause. So I think it’s either a USB peripheral or the sim itself. Will do some more troubleshooting when I can but this Process Monitor looks like it just tells what’s running an at what time? Jack Sawyer

Yes it suggested to me explorer.exe is involved in disk access in areas of data where MSFS lives. I don't know if it's a big chunk of scenery or what it is, but I can say it is associated w/ brief hard pauses in the sim. I made one other change that did impact something that I think will translate to smoother perfomance but haven't verified it yet: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/625352-how-many-have-brief-pauses-secondary-to-disk-access/?do=findComment&comment=4858914 Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. October 15, 20223 yr Author Jack, we're both trying to ascertain why we're having pauses and this is as far as I've come. Troubleshooting something like this can be painstakingly slow. I'm trying to learn if having OS and MSFS on separate drives prevents this or if this essentially came with SU10 which is my best guess right now. I know I didn't have this for most of MSFS' 2y history and it started recently. Plus, it existed PRIOR to my very fresh reinstall of Win10 on a freshly formatted drive, reinstall of MSFS which by then already had been updated to SU10. I think I'll put it to rest and live with it until SU11 comes along, and post a Zendesk ticket as well. I feel nothing I can do will fix it, but I'd really like to see others beyond you. me and a couple of others who notice the same type of thing. This is not the stuttering issue comes from main thread overload which will jeopardize smooth video upon your approach airport in particular it is instead this hard pause that has something to do with Explorer.exe impacting flightsimulator.exe negatively.
