October 29, 20223 yr I plan to build a new system for flight sims (and games). First my current system is 4770K @4.5 GHz 16 Gb RAM 2200 MHz 2070 Super all these components I intend to upgrade I use VR in flight sims and have a HP Reverb G2. I use MSFS DCS P3D5 XP11 (maybe XP12 later) I have narrowed down to these three CPUs and find it hard to choose which one. As I see it the main pro and con for each of them is 5800X3D with PRO The reports of good performance in MSFS because of big L3 cache Least expensive system CON Old platform no upgrade possibility Lowest CPU frequencies 7600X PRO Highest CPU frequencies DDR5 memory Seem to have best upgrade options CON Most expensive system Only six cores 13600KF PRO Highest number of cores CON Upgrade options ? What do you think. Should any PRO or CON be added or removed ?
October 30, 20223 yr Id go 7600x if I had to buy one today....simply because an x3d version for 7000 ryzen is coming. If you are currently using a ryzen setup, the 5800x3d is like 340 bucks right now at several retailers. WOuld be a good stop gap but I wouldn't build a new system around it today. October 30, 20223 yr I'm looking a building a new system myself coming from a similar system to yours (4770K and 1070TI). I've been considering the same 3 CPUs. I was leaning towards the 5800x3d at first due to the numerous claims of superior performance in MSFS, but the benchmarks at https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2022-intel-core-i9-13900k-core-i5-13600k-review?page=2 have me leaning toward the new I5 13600k which is outperforming both of the AMD offerings in MSFS. It is also a better CPU for non gaming tasks and you can still use less expensive DDR4 memory. Of course CaptainNicks advice to go with the 7600x is also worthy of consideration due to a potentially better upgrade path, but at this time the 13600K will outperform it. My conclusion is rather the opposite. I was leaning towards 13600KF but now towards 5800X3D. I don't see the benchmark you link to showing 13600 being faster than 5800X3D. And on Toms hardware I read that the 13600 needs to be overclocked to be as fast as the 5800X3D (gaming). I am aware of the intel being better for non gaming tasks like productivity. But what is that if not tasks that don't require a fast CPU ? I have no performance problem with my current system for non gaming tasks.

I think we can safely assume that such a 3D CPU is going to be very expensive. And even the 7600X system is now the most expensive system

What is expensive is relative...the 13 series intel will probably (historically) be the the last to work on the z6/z7 series mobo's. Making it un-upgradeable in the future without a new mobo purchase as well as a cpu. Everything has it's pro's and cons 😄 Nick Silver http://www.youtube.com/user/socalf1fan Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 64gb ddr4 3200mhz ram, RTX 4080 Super, HP Reverb G2 v2, 4K Tv Monitor

Of course a 7000 3d cache will be more powerful than 5800x3d I have never doubt that. And the cost is not discussed in the link neither when it comes out.
