Clouds/OVR Cast causing stutters

Featured Replies

Hi:

I'm noticing when there is an overcast layer or fog I get lots of stutters.  Any help?  I'm using live WX.  Also using DX11 and my settings are all "High".  I'm just not sure what settings to adjust/lower.

Thanks.

Can you post your basic specs:  CPU/clockspeed/GPU

I think that you mention mist clouds like fogging, they are very heavy at performance and suddenly you will be gpu limited… I think there is no solution for this for now.

It helps, if you switch antialiasing from TAA to DLSS. For me, it reduces GPU load significantly.

I have "DLAA"  Is that the same?  Thanks.

Just try switching between antialiasing options, which is best for your system. Spawn somewhere, with foggy or overcast weather and try it.

Fascinating.  I saw this somewhat regularly with the old RTX 2070 Super but haven't seen it once with clouds on Ultra since the 3080Ti and that was back w/ SU5.

See I had everything set to Ultra because I let the sim do the settings.  Then I got these really, really bad stutters flying out of DFW heavy IFR with lots of clouds so I turned down everything down to High but that hasn't fixed it.  That's why I came here for help.  When things are VFR, I can run at Ultra with no problem.

Thanks everyone!

I found reducing scaling helped.  I go no higher than 130.

Aaron, what is your display resolution as that is not in your sig?  I have a little lesser machine and have eliminated 99.8% of any stuttering of any kind and that is with all settings set at Ultra save Terrain LOD which I need to keep between 100 and 200 depending largely on which plane.  In the PMDG 738 flying out of LFPG in ample thin clouds and light rain with FSLTL traffic, GSX Pro, PACX and APLv2 I had no stuttering whatsoever and liquid smooth animation from gate to gone.  Are you running 4K?

I'm showing "Full Screen Resolution 3440x1440" V-SYNC on in sim and G-sync on in NVIDA control panel.  I'm running in window mode though and I'm using a Acer predator X34 curved monitor at 60hz.  Thanks.  Oh, and the frame rate limit is set to 100% monitor refresh rate.

Ok fabulous, we're in the same boat except for your CPU, but close enough try some things.  Do you have MSI Afterburner w/ RTSS installed?  If not install it and report back...

Thanks for your help.  I do not.  I'll install.  What would you like me to report?
