December 23, 20223 yr As I was installing 2 payware airportts into P3D v5.3, we suddenly had a power outage. When I restarted P3D, everything seemed normal but when I tried to fly from those airports (in New Zealand), there are only 2 runways and no parkings listed. I tried a few other airports including Heathrow but after trying to load any AUS/NZ airport the details of any other airport in the world are the same: 2 runways, a fuel bay and nothing else. On reboot, everything goes back to normal, until I try to access an AUS/NZ airport, then it reverts. I have tried a repair, and deleting and re-installing. Doesn't help. Any one any ideas? What has got corrupted? Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.
December 23, 20223 yr Ugh. This is the sort of event that has driven me to run all my flight sim computers on a UPS, make regular (at least monthly) full system backups, and take a pre-installation config file snapshot with Lorby-SI's P3D Addon Manager before any change to my scenery setup. My fix for these sorts of cock-ups is to first try restoring the pre-existing config file set with P3D Addon Manager, and if that doesn't cut it, a full system restore. Restoring the snapshot with Addon Manager takes one click and a few seconds (and it nearly always works), and a full system restore, if that becomes necessary, takes about 3-4 hours. That said, troubleshooting a scenery config that's been boogered-up in some mysterious way can take days and still never get to the root cause of the issue. My guess is that your scenery configuration has been corrupted by the power interruption while it was writing to the file system. That config is defined by a fairly complex mix of configuration files--scenery.cfg, terrain.cfg and several sets of xml files. In absence of the ability to restore a working config from a backup, and depending on how many sceneries you have installed, you may well find that a ground-up reinstall of P3D will prove the less time-consuming option over trying to troubleshoot a corrupted scenery environment. December 23, 20223 yr Author Just so you don't think I was completely simple! I do have a UPS but it is being fitted with new batteries, so was out of use. I did a restore from my back up but it did not fix the problem. I have not tried addon manager. As you say, maybe a complete rebuild...................... Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Been there and done that, more times than I care to recall. These days I go to great lengths to stay off that well-worn trail...a full software rebuild is a 80-100 man-hour project here, and something I try to reserve for the planned new hardware builds I do every 2-3 years or so. Thanks for the sympathy. BUT I remembered that I read an article a couple of years ago, by Poppet (Elaine) from P3D, which detailed steps to remove the generated files and preserve most add-ons. I found it, removed the generated files then replaced the addon folder, removed the last traces of what I thought was the corrupted scenery and (wait for it)...... P3D works again! Now all I have to do is check which sceneries etc need to be re-installed. Happy Days. Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. December 26, 20223 yr Author Just to let you know. After 2 days of investigation, I tracked down the "culprit". It was ORBX TE GB Central that the power outage had corrupted. A "verify" has fixed the problem and all seems to be well again. . Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. January 16, 20233 yr If you tried to reinstall and it did not work, then something else seems to be broken. But without having a look at your rig, I think it is not possible to find it. So reinstalling the scenery beeing installed during the power outage should fix all power loss errors of a partial installation. So if this is not possible, a more severe damage would be expected, which has nothing to do with the installation of an airport I think.
