Carenado Turbo Commander Mod v6.2

Recommended Posts

Hey Folks,

If anyone is interested I've pulled together a pre-config of fixes which I've versioned as 6.2

It's basically @whamil77 's 6.1 release with fixes as I could do.

PM me if you're interested.

Cheers

Details in the spoiler.

TBM 07/01/2023        Finalise.
TBM 02/01/2023
=============================================================================

Bill's version 6.1 set of mods for the Carenado 690B series are a great overall
improvement to the aircraft and make what was previously a typical Carenado into
a very nice flying machine.

Unfortunately Bill has dropped off the radar and his last release of 6.1 came
with a series of unresolved issues.

Here I've looked to improve the build where I've resolved various syntax and
gauge issues, added RXP GTN 750 support as well as embeding the Roland Radar
into the Virtual Cockpit in the Avdyne bezel.

Note I've only targeted the "panel.F1GTN_AP106" and "panel.CarGNS_AP106" for
rectifications and updates as I have both the F1 and RXP GTN 750 and wanted
both supported as well as the default Carenado GNS.

Notes regarding the F1/RXP GTN and WX Radar are in the panel.F1GTN_AP106\panel.cfg
=============================================================================
// TBM 02/01/2023 Added support for either F1 GTN70 or RXP GTN750. The relevent GTN750 sections with lines to comment or uncomment are [Window00], [Vcockpit01] & [Vcockpit02].
//                Embeded the Roland Radar unit into the AVIDYNE. NOTE: both Active Sky and Roland Radar is required to utilise. The relevent section is [Vcockpit04].
=============================================================================

Have versioned the zip package as 6.2
Package size is ~968 MB uncompressed.
=============================================================================
Refer to Bill's notes and documentation for details of the mods and how to install.

Make a backup if your existing 690B install as a first step as the copy paste
install method is used and will overwrite existing files.

Basics are copy the zip file contents into the either a defined add-on path
(if the aircraft is installed as an add-on) or into the main root of P3D where
in either case the contents will overwrite the existing files.

I install Carenado aircraft in an Add-on path and I've included the add-on.xml
I'm using in as an example in "\690B Mods v6.2\Carenado\Carenado 690B_Turbo_Commander"

NOTE: the Carenado Sound folder is an exception as the sounds won't function
if installed via the add-on method, instead the Sound folder needs to be copied
into the sim root where the path below will then exist.

~\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Sound\Carenado\CarSound690B
~\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Sound\Carenado\CarSound690B

Performed Work:
=============================================================================
Install original Carenado, copy for testing       DONE

Review Gauges & cab                               DONE
Review Aircraft Models                            DONE (NOTE: only the GTN750 model has had work).
Review Panel Configs                              DONE (NOTE: only panel.F1GTN_AP106 and panel.CarGNS_AP106 has been reviewed).
Review Aircraft.cfg & reset default texture paths DONE (There are 5 additional liveries installed).

Copy changes To "690B Mods v6.2"                  DONE

OCR'd and enhanced (for full text searching) the pilot manuals and are located in,

"\690B Mods v6.2\Carenado\Carenado 690B_Turbo_Commander\"
    AC690B Pilot Operating Handbook_OCR'd.pdf
    AC980 Pilot Operating Handbook_OCR'd.pdf

Bills' Mods docs are located within,
"\690B Mods v6.2\Carenado\Carenado 690B_Turbo_Commander\Bill's Mods"

I was also experimenting with lighting and FX changes, these are still within
the aircraft.cfg as commented lines where I was using A2A shockwave lighting
and PFX effects.

Flight1 GTN750 or the RXP GTN750
=============================================================================
        These are 3rd party purchasable Garmin GTN750 GPS integrations, noting only the RXP is available to purchase, although like myself you might already own the F1 GTN 750.
        The RXP GTN750 will be the unit required for P3D v5+, noting RXP GTN750 will also be fine in P3D v4.5.
        If you're running P3D v4.5 you might find the F1 GTN750 provides for a better integration experience.

=============================================================================
Active Sky P3D
=============================================================================
Besides managing the weather aspect of P3D, Active Sky also has an API which will be used by the ROLAND WX RADAR.

=============================================================================
ROLAND WX RADAR - panel.cfg
=============================================================================
The Roland WX Radar has been added as embedded into the EX500.
Control of the radar is via click spots on the left half of radar screen.

There is a v2 gauge located in the AVSIM Library, always download this as it contains the documentation. This version suits P3D v4.5

https://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=p3dgau&DLID=200102

Roland's RolASNRadar.dll can be dropped directly into either the P3D\Gauges folder or the Active Sky ~\ActiveSkyP4 addins folder.

For P3D v5 Roland developed a V3 dll available via the link below. The new dll includes Echo Shadow support and increases the beam angle up to 120° and the max range to 160 NM.

Roland's RolASNRadar.dll can be dropped directly into either the P3D\Gauges folder or the Active Sky ~\ActiveSkyP5 addins folder.

Roland's Radar is built using Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 and will require the 2015 runtimes installed.
The Microsoft link below is a landing page for downloading the latest runtime versions.

=============================================================================
Resolutions:
=============================================================================
Mostly the resolutions related to review of logging in P3D and correction of syntax and invalid variable type errors in gauges and other components within the limits of my knowledge.

This is apart from the Gauge_UPDATE_PRESSURIZE_690.xml which required a fair amount of effort to create something operational.

Notes: Gauge_UPDATE_PRESSURIZE_690
<!-- Cabin pressure schedule for 5.2 psi differential cabin, the 11000 value and calculations result in an approx 5.2 cabin pressure differential up to an altitude of ~31,000 feet. -->

<!--
 Auto Pressurisation control is based on the AutoPilot Altimeter where the max cabin pressure differential will be maintained at no greater than 5.2 psi as altitude increases.
 This gives an effective ceiling of ~31,000 feet, higher than 31,000 will cause the automation to increase the Cabin Altitude while differential of 5.2 is maintained.
 At a cabin altitude of ~13,000 feet the cabin low pressure warning illuminates.

 When set to Auto Pressurisation the gauge will maintain a departure location cabin pressure up to a differential of 5.2 (till about 11,000 feet assuming a less then 11,000 feet departure point),
 after which it will begin increasing the Cabin Altitude while maintaining the differential.

 When landing (landing gear @ 99% and less than 100 feet off the ground) the cabine pressure will auto reset to the current altitude.

 USED FOR TESTING - Manual operation can be engaged via the key combo of shift+4 and unchecking the Auto Pressurisation option or by disengaging the Auto Pilot as the Auto Pilot must be engaged for Auto Pressurisation.
 (L:Auto Pressurize,bool) 1 == (A:AUTOPILOT MASTER,bool) 0 != and

 Manual operation runs the original Carenado Cabin Altitude gauge code and allows control via the Cabin Altitude controller for manual operation.
 Note the controller dial supports a 10,000 max value, although the Auto Pressurisation function will take the actual value past the dial limitation if it needs to.

Hi Rogen. Does it work with FSX or is only PD3V5?

Best Regards,

Roberto

Hi @Ralvarez232,

It's intent is P3D v4.5 upwards, sorry... there is both XML and x64 dll based gauges and the models are build with the P3D 4.5 SDK tools.

So yeah you'd have to fork out for P3D, at least v4.5 and have the suitable hardware to run it.

Cheers

Well, im think work for FSX too, but if not, very sad (for me).

Well... Sorry mate, it's P3D x64 only.

In the third post of this thread someone asked the FSX question and I responded.

Really P3D v4.5 is the closest to a "fixed and updated" FSX that includes very high levels of compatibility for major items there is in my humble opinion e.g. I have all my Orbx scenery moved over to P3D and I say P3D v4.5 because after that version P3D begins to move away from compatibility (which had to happen at some stage), unfortunately for P3D MSFS was also released where both sims have their pros and cons but MSFS is certainly the overall GFX update over P3D.

Nearly all the major FSX addons are available in x64 and there are no 32bit OOMs, plus P3D v4.5 Academic version is not at all expensive.

As for planes, most majors are still avialable and quite a few are even free, like the catalog of Milviz freebees.

Anyway, up to yourself as to what you want to do.

Cheers
