Add-On Priority

Featured Replies

I know that MSFS is pretty good organizing add-ons to display correctly. But here and then, some add-ons require to be set at higher priority than others. Rotterdam by Thalixte (flightsim.to) is a recent example. So my question, how can I set the priority of add-ons in MSFS?

You can do it inside MSFS with a new feature they recently added, but I have never used it.

You can also do this yourself in seconds inside the Community folder, and this is the way I do it.
MSFS loads items in the community folder in alphabetical order, with the items loaded last taking priority.
So, put a 'z-' in front of the folder name, simple as that.
For instance, z-thalixte-rotterdam1, and do the same for the other folders (I believe there are three in total).

Unless I have totally misunderstood your question, this should work, as anything inside the Community folder overrides the Official folder, and anything loaded last will override anything loaded previously.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Thanks Rob. I will check the possibilities you mentioned.

From SU10 on, the Content.xml file behavior changed, and now it permits to properly set the priorities for your add-ons, to make the sim load them in the order you desire. The previous Content.xml file doesn't serve any purpose now and unless you use it to set your priorities, can be safely deleted.

The new "format" for the Content.xml file is very well explained here, from Navigraph:

https://forum.navigraph.com/t/su10-and-new-context-xml/9288

Look down in that post and find out the flow graph relative to package loading order and you'll find a PDF you can download that will explain by itself.

There's also an option inside the Experimental tools in the sim main menu (inside Options), relative to Package Ordering (from memory something like Package Ordering Tool, or so), where you can also manipulate your add-ons "layers" to load them in the proper order. It's use is mostly intuitive.

This is the correct procedure to make the sim load your add-on packages in the proper order, as you wish. I used it successfully to make the Meigs Airport in Chicago (KCGX) to load "above" the Chicago Landmarks add-on from DD. Here's my Content.xml file, as an example:

<Priorities>
    <Package name="drzewieckidesign-chicagolandmarks" priority="1"/>
    <Package name="microsoft-airport-kcgx-meigs-field" priority="2"/>
</Priorities>
