February 21, 20233 yr Hi everyone! Novice here. I'm wondering if I completely setting up a STAR and APPROACH incorrectly. I used Simbrief to come up with an IFR route from KLGA to KORD. This is what I got: COATE Q436 EMMMA WYNDE2 So WYNDE2 is the STAR and EMMMA is the approach right? But when I plug in this info into Navigraph Charts for an ILS RWY 28C with the VOGLR transition, it gives me this zig zag: My screenshot https://flic.kr/p/2oiawEX It looks wrong to me and I figured that I'd get something that looks close to direct. Did I do something wrong? TIA, Will
February 21, 20233 yr Looks strange but that is the arrival for 28C among other runways. This is page 2 of that arrival. Look at the last NOTE: ORD landing west expect radar vectors to final approach course after PAPPI. February 21, 20233 yr EMMMA is where you end your flight on Q436. From there, it looks like Simbrief is going direct to WYNDE to join the WINDE2 STAR. The way this route should look is: COATE Q436 EMMMA WYNDE WYNDE2 Go from COATE on Q436 to EMMMA, the direct to WYNDE to join the WYNDE2. I bet that is how it shows up in the flight plan printout on the PDF. Rich Boll Richard Boll Wichita, KS
February 22, 20233 yr Author Thank you to both of you. I really appreciate it. All of this IFR stuff is overwhelming. There is sure a lot to learn! The original link to the photo I gave is no longer there. Here is that photo: Will Edited February 22, 20233 yr by willsonc21
February 22, 20233 yr Commercial Member I am not a pilot, nor am I an ATC... but, I believe that your aircraft would be vectored south towards the ILS approach when you reached WYNDE. I think the STAR is designed to route traffic north of the airport for vectoring and control. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
February 23, 20233 yr Author Thank you Ed. That sure would make sense. I think my mind was just so fixed on some autopilot approach and ignored the existence of vectors. Will Edited February 23, 20233 yr by willsonc21
