Also the site of a fatal derailment a few years ago

" February 15, 2023  Canuck News/Canada/Calgary
British Columbia’s coroner’s office has recommended a full inquest into the deaths of three Calgary railroaders who were killed in a derailment near Field, B.C. in February 2019, according to one of the victim’s mothers."

And it took four years just to get to this.

From the linked article:

“My immediate reaction was one of hopefulness … in our country, railways, they hold a lot of power and great deal of autonomy with that power, so if they ever do anything wrong, it’s darn near impossible to hold them to account,”

Not only in your country.  In many countries corporate power trumps all.  Here in the US our Supreme Court has ruled that campaign contributions are the same as free speech.  Almost unlimited.  Hence, if you need money to run for public office you need to promise not to bite the hand that feeds you.

Someday I would like to meet a politician running for office and ask him or her why?  Why do you spend millions seeking a job that, on the surface, pays less than you could earn in your regular profession?  Forget 'serving the people' and 'making a 'difference'. What's in it for you?"

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Trust me, many of them end up making more money as politicians without having to work hard than they would working in an actual profession.

It sure isn't just their base pay.
