The same 'sameness'....

Also if you use the same CAD software, you're going to get similar results.

There has not been any new innovations in airflow, the air flows the same as it always has, if we have now come up with the ideal shapes to travel through air very fast their is probably not too much left to do except fine tune what we have already learned.

I agree it doesn't make it as much fun compared to post WW2 all the way through to the late 70s when things moved forward very quickly, compared to that period in time we are now at an era where we are just fine tuning things and making it more efficient.

And more dull.  Now if we could only design and fine tune and make people more efficient and all look the same with the same political and religious beliefs and wearing the same fashions and having the same amount of wealth would we have a better world?

Could that be what AI is striving for?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Stealth is stealth and stealth requires a certain shape. When the F117 was designed we only had the computers that could calculate such things in flat planes, thus its faceted angular look. These days we can do the calculations for curves that are still stealthy.

Plenty of innovation in the electric aircraft sphere though. I've lost count of the number of designs for EVTOL's. Eviation Allice, now doing its flight testing, is radically different in design to the Joby EVTOL or the Jaunt Air Mobility, or the Volocopter, or the Lilium and its array of ducted fans.

We also have new developments in propulsion, battery electric, diesel electric hybrid, and the Jetoptera that's powered by the same bladeless fan design as a Dyson hair dryer.

And then there's this weird looking guy below...

GE Aviation, Jetoptera join forces on fluidic propulsion system

Its a fake or at least meant to mislead the observer .

It is not a fighter , pull the nose up to a high alpha (high angle of attack)  and see what happens to the topside air intakes , the air will be extremely turbulent choking the engine(s) .

Also it is interesting to work out how the pilot will enter the cockpit considering the width of the chines .

It is more than likely that any NGAD mock up or prototype that exists will be shrouded in secrecy for quite a while . I also suspect that the authorities will want to shake down competing proposals considering the fiasco of the YF-22/YF-23 where a selection decision was made of aircraft  that were far from completed fighters .

Cheers Karol
