East Frisian Islands

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have the Aerosoft East Frisian Islands installed but performance is terrible. It used to be good, but at the moment, while having reasonable framerate of about 30 fps in 2D, it is stuttering/pausing heavily. In cockpit view is still good (also in VR, can move head and the instrument view is fluent, but outside it pauses every some 1/3 second or so. Other scenery works as expected. Any clues?

EDIT: WHen uninstalled the airports perform normal, but more boring of course.

Thanks in advance,

René

I purchased this about 2 years ago and only flew it once. Performance is non existent. Ridiculous, a few tiny islands, villages and airfields a stuttery mess and they don't even bother an update.

PC: Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite, AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080 Super Aorus Master, DDR5 G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 2X32 GB, Corsair HX 1000, Fractal Torrent, Samsung LC32 / G7 1440P.

I found the models to be incredibly badly behaved as well. Lots of disappearances, popping up at the last second etc.

It's heavy in custom ground imagery which might be the prime factor in bad performance.

I won't be expecting an update.

You could see if you could delete the CGL folders which is where that lives. It might break everything. No idea. I've never done it.

Obviously back it up beforehand.

An easier one would be that it also has an enormous texture folder in the package. You could resize the biggest ones in a program like paint.net from 4096x4096 to 2048x2048 etc and see if that makes a difference.

Many normal textures could go from 4096 to 1024 and you won't see much difference.

THanks for the replies, will try to fiddle with the CGL folders. I would like to fly these islands, as I now have IRL lessons from nearby in the Netherlands (EHST)

I'd suggest trying reducing the textures first. Probably easier and likely more effective. If you don't like the look then just drop the backup in again.

Some of the textures are absolutely vast and double or more the size of what other developers would use for the same thing.

There's also a suspiciously small number of textures with 'LOD' in the name.

Hm, I dont have pain.net and sounds a lot of work with so many dds files.

I try to remove the CGL folder first.

EDIT: That doesnt help.

In the folder "aerosoft-airfields-east-frisian-islands\SimObjects\Misc" deactive the folder "Library_SimObjects" by renaming it for example to "_Library_SimObjects" and you have much better fps.

That works great, finally the islands are flyable again!

Think there’s loads of objects about the islands like lights and boats etc there’s a guide on the aerosoft website with locations of everything. Some are quite small though.
