Secondary flight plan - any point?
I use route 2 on the Boeing irl a lot. I use it for arrivals where there may be runway changes eg snow clearing in ARN so I’d put plan A in route 1 and plan B in route 2 I use it for orientation and for contingencies on the NAT by using it to display all the tracks especially if I’m crossing them so I know if I have to descend I’ll know where they are. You ca do this by route copy and then plotting the Nat tracks (or relevant parts of them) as sections of route with discontinuities between them to stop them joining up. I might use it for showing where a sig weather area is when we get sent a six weather report via CPDLC again by plotting that on route 2 I use it also when flying over places like Afghanistan Iran turkey etc where there’s issues with being able to descend due to high ground over large areas and we can use route 2 to show what we’ll do if we have a contingency where we can’t maintain altitude. I might also use it for the diversion routing depending on where we are and what’s going on.

What do people think about 787-10 flight model?
IRL 787 pilot for over 10 years now. I love flying the 787 and much prefer it to the old legacy Boeings I used to fly. To me it’s a fantastic mix of technology and piloting and really looks after you but also lets you switch it off and fly it old school. We’re (in my airline) also encouraged to handfly when appropriate and do things like a visual circuit joining downwind and it’s on things like this that the 78 really shines with the HUD and 3 degree line etc making judging a visual really fun and rewarding. it’s also nice in turbulence and pretty easy to land. In the sim. . . I don’t find the real 78 much like the 787 in the sim really. Working title have improved the avionics a lot over the years but it’s still severely handicapped by being an old original asobo aircraft. The question was about the handling in the sim I think? I think the sim aircraft doesn’t replicate flying and particularly hand flying the real 787 particularly well, it’s far too sensitive especially in pitch. The performance also feels pretty inaccurate, to me anyway, perhaps it’s down to engine ratings but it feels very much like an aircraft made using the FCOM and some performance figures from the unreliable airspeed table on the QRH and with very little feedback from real 787 pilots. As I said though, it’s been improved a lot since the early days of FS2020 but sadly it’s still a long way from something like the PMDG quality Boeings.

Speed brake effectiveness
Speed brakes are very effective IRL on the 78 especially compared to the 73 or even the 75 or 76. I think there’s an issue with the ops set up tbh. On the PMDG you’d notice a difference with the speed brakes deployed on the 73 and definitely on the 777.

New PMDG update
Most unbiased real Boeing pilots and particularly 737 pilots I’ve spoken to prefer the ifly max for the reasons you give above. Looks like PMDG have finally after 15 years, improved their old lnav though which is a plus. Great to see some competition in the Boeing flightsim market also.

2024 Elephant in the Room
So if my employer tries to replace me as a pilot with a WFH pilot that could be less enviro friendly than having me flying the aircraft irl?

2024 Elephant in the Room
This is so true. last night I was reading online about how to improve my internet before FS2024 arrives. . . . whilst I was watching something streaming on Netflix. I hypocritically decided it was all my families fault as they always working from home, in teams meetings or streaming stuff. I’ve only got about 40 internet speed units, so not sure how it’s all going to work with FS2024.

It seems not all ILS have DME. Is that a MSFS thing?
It been interesting flying in parts of the world where gps RFI (radio frequency interference) is resulting in GPS being jammed and spoofed and if on approach or departure having to switch gps nav off and making sure dme nav is on etc and having to rely solely on ground based navigation aids, It’s harder than not having gps as the gps information is unreliable and giving false information. GPS navigation and approach capability, especially RNP ar has been amazing in creating approaches in many places where previously there only was circling etc but recent events have shown how important ground based navigation aids still are in many areas.

I think this was the source of all the initial confusion and disagreement.

Yes.

777 cross wind take off technique
The same Boeing type fctms do vary between operators so perhaps it’s that also.

777 cross wind take off technique
Is that different as it a 747 though? My 777/787 FCTM says ” Rotation and Takeoff Begin the takeoff roll with the control wheel approximately centered. Throughout the takeoff roll, gradually increase control wheel displacement into the wind only enough to maintain approximately wings level. Note: Excessive control wheel displacement during rotation and liftoff increases spoiler deployment. As spoiler deployment increases, drag increases and lift is reduced which results in reduced tail clearance, a longer takeoff roll, and slower airplane acceleration. At liftoff, the airplane is in a sideslip with crossed controls. A slow, smooth recovery from this sideslip is accomplished by slowly neutralizing the control wheel and rudder pedals after liftoff.”

777 cross wind take off technique
We used to pre add some aileron before beginning the take off roll and stopped about 10 years ago I think. Now we do (as the Boeing FCTM states) start wings approximately level and add just enough to keep wings level. The reason this changed I think was that people were adding too much aileron and it caused spoiler deployment creating drag and reducing tail clearance on rotation.

FS2024, are you at all bracing for disappointed?
I can’t wait for the new sim to appear. I’m going to buy the ultimate version asap. I might even move to Kiribati to get it first. First things to do, after the buying and downloading. . . Have a brief look at all the new menus etc Spawn over my house. Try a take off and landing somewhere Check out the career and missions There’s so many awesome new features (that we know about) on the way I’m REALLY excited about it and looking forwards to it.

Can anyone guess this new PMDG project? (photos)...
Didn’t know they had a discord, is it any better than that awful forum they have? Not sure what the pictures are of, doesn’t look like a 78 though (unfortunately)

Censorship in official MSFS forums
Seems like you’re complaining on a forum for flying games about another forum for a flying game and specifically complaining about the guy who’s in charge of the game. Your post even explained you’d been warned or banned before. Each to their own and it’s obviously up to you how you conduct yourself . . . but it doesn’t sound like what you’re doing is working. To me your post sounded a bit rude tbh. As to the flying experience bit, I’m not remotely bothered by or interested in Jorge’s IRL flying experience. His enthusiasm for the MSFS is clearly huge and I’m really happy he’s in charge of the project.

Finally, Trains are coming to MSFS!
I got this and have flown around lots but haven’t seen a single train yet. I think there’s a ‘cheat’ mentioned on the flight sim forum in the linked thread, where you can do something to the dlc to highlight where they all are but seems like without doing that you’re not going to see many at the moment. Hopefully far more trains will appear soon.

iFly 737 Max cabin and cockpit walkthrough video
It’s the entry code for the flight deck door. The keypad next to the door. Normally someone presses a code outside the flightdeck on the frame and the pilots(s) get a message and then look at the camera and decide whether to unlock the door or deny entry

WU 17 Today (Now live already)
I found with gb landmarks n c and s, anywhere there’s photogrammetry the landmarks were significantly worse than the photogrammetry so I removed them. Hopefully an update will improve this as most of these landmarks are fairly basic models.

WU 17 Today (Now live already)
Hi everyone, Has anyone tested any or all the orbx dlc and the U.K. update? I’ve got orbx U.K. mesh dublin london uk south central and north? all from marketplace. I was going to delete them all and then do the WU and see how it all is without them, it looks like loads of the new WU POIs were in the orbx U.K. VFR packs so there might be conflict ? Same with the mesh and city packs etc,

PMDG 777 another update
There was a few issues I saw with it Ibut one was it wouldn’t engage when level and the speed window then didn’t open when it should.
-
PMDG 777 another update
Have you used it in real life on many Boeings and if so which types?
-
PMDG 777 another update
That’s a bit hyperbolic. It’s far from being “exactly” like the real aircraft. Perhaps if you understood how the real Boeing AFDS operates you’d realise this. I don’t expect it to be exactly the same at all, but a bit more realistic, might make it more useful for real pilots to use. This is like the 737 lnav debates where you and other fans kept going on and on about how good it was and even now PMDG admit it needed updating and have improved it a bit on the 777 but there’s still a way to go.
-
PMDG 777 another update
I’m glad other Boeing pilots have noticed this! Forums/discord/Reddit etc all seem full of people saying how great it is now. The LNAV definitely definitely isn’t correct although it’s far better than the 737s I don’t think the FLCH works correctly either especially with the A/T but I got bored on the forum etc and gave up on giving feedback.

MSFS Local Legend 17: Curtiss C-46 Commando
Aeroplane heaven I think.

Falkland Islands/Malvines
PLEASE can we get these (Falklands and Orkney Shetland) on marketplace particularly for Xbox as they can’t get flightsim.to? it opens your work upto a huge audience and many devs have done this now with a minimum charge, if that’s the issue.
