Definitely one of my favourite places in the sim, been several times in RL (we had a training facility in Orange County), enjoyed every visit but wouldn't want to live there. And in sim terms, I've always felt XP and TrueEarth, plus many and various little freeware VFR addons, just can't be beat, and I still think that's probably true for me, even though the MSFS version is very nice as well. You won't be surprised to hear that it's the road and track network that makes it so special in XP for me. Anyhoo, a few from a flight that I had to stop for time reasons, but I will be back to explore a lot more.

(excuse the annoying little menu arrow on the left of the screen - it's for the Duchess and I haven't checked how to hide it as yet)

Oooh! Oooh! freeways!

This is such a sad thing in MSFS. I can see that getting the roads and bridges is not a priority for MSFS but if XP (well known for its "we're a serious sim and we don't care about looking pretty") can do it this well then MS/Asobo ought to be able to do it in MSFS.

And that's where I ran out of time. Saved the flight though so I'll pick it up again later sometime. As Randy Newman never quite said "I love LA (in the sim)"

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Nice. Everything looks really first-rate, right down to the palm trees!

Excellent shots Andy! 😉

Another wonderful set Andy, you have you XP looking top class.

I used to see Flight Training Adelaide's planes regularly when I lived in NW Victoria at Mildura but only their TB-10s(?).

Nice shots, but after the PG in MSFS it would be impossible to go backwards.  It's just me, no offense.

Cheers John, and yes, I was quite impressed with that for XP.

Cheers Will. Did you ever try XP12?

Thanks Martyn, and I guess you'd never see one of these in LA but I just liked the look of it

Thanks Jack, and none taken. I really love the MSFS version as well, but it does tend to suffer from a lot of those vegetative uglifacts - you know, the odd looking half-tree, half concrete bollard thingies. And of course it doesn't have the magnificent XP road and traffic system, which for some reason, really gets to me. But I'm planning a trip back to MSFS world in a couple of days time so maybe I'll do a comparison run then.

It IS different, and I'm not sure I would have bothered if I hadn't already been a fan of XP11 and TrueEarth - getting to grips with a new sim is a PITA, trying to remember how one works is bad enough. Which is why I shall be back in MSFS later today, don't want to forget how to do stuff there!
