Advice for fresh Windows/MSFS install?

Featured Replies

I’m putting a new 7800x3D system together this weekend. My first re-install of Windows 11 and MSFS in a few years.

What Windows 11 settings etc do I need to change or confirm? HDR setup for sure. Game Mode? What else.

Does anyone have or know of a checklist for getting a new MSFS install optimized?

I recommend watching a 9-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UQZ5oQg8XA&t=265s on how to install Windows 11 before proceeding. With his recommendations and settings, you will have less bloatware and unnecessary services killing your performance. Once the installation is complete, it's best to do all the necessary updates, install the video driver at the end and thoroughly test the system for performance. Keep in mind that the Game mode feature may not work as expected on certain systems, so it's important to conduct stress testing. Certainly, it will take some time but is worth it. The issue I noticed is that MSFS will keep data from the previous PC architecture and will try to load the old settings; nothing to worry about, it will ask if you want to load previous settings. Just don't. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks, in my case, I think I want to load previous settings as my system isn't changing dramatically and I don't want to re-setup MSFS.

All necessary settings for Ryzen 7800X3D were enabled when I did my installation of Win 11 from scratch a week ago, but don't forget to install the drivers for the motherboard and the cpu, what is most important is that Hags, Game mode and Balanced energy settings are enabled, which they all were after the installation.

Thanks... but why Balanced Energy?

Go with Ultra Performance on the energy to avoid device sleeping.

Yeah, since my PC is a dedicated gaming machine, if it's on, I want max performance. I normally disable all forms of sleep or hibernation in bios as well.

Same same...none of that balance business for my machine 😉 Max power! And before anyone thinks I am wasting electricity, my entire home runs on solar, which is great in Colorado 🙂

Otherwise won't the CPU's VCache work optimal according to several videos I have seen, you can turn off device sleeping in balanced mode as well.

This video is specific to the 7900X3d, but the game bar and energy settings apply to all X3D chips.
