THE HUMAN FUTURE: A Case for Optimism

Just another of those things that makes me think.....

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

"A thin layer of stone in a future rock face."

A sobering thought. I wonder if there is already a thin layer of stone in a yet to be discovered rock face, somewhere, courtesy of a previous civilization. After all, the planet is 4.53 billion years old.

Cats would know.

13:10 gave me a shiver.

We have already transcended, this life is just one experience amongst many trillions we have already passed through on our way to trillions more 🙃😉😇

"Every 27 million years Earth experiences a cyclical mass extinction cause by the sun passing through the asteroid dense middle region of our galaxy."

" In about a billion years from now the brightening of the sun will make Earth too hot for photosynthesis and the oceans will slowly boil away."

The rest of the video is optimistc and quiote profound. 👍

I couldn't understand how the “giant conductive counterweight on the far side of the moon” would pull the Earth away from the sun (28:20).

“We could aim to outlive the stars themselves in some one hundred trillion years” (27:24). I wonder what they had in mind, maybe the ability to transfer to a younger universe, if we are really in a multiverse.

Could try something like this, but I dont think humanity is disciplined or stable enough for such long term projects.

Even the "heechee' had to go back in time and genetically modify themselves into something stalwart enough, to complete their project to escape the universe..... 🙂

By that time a civilization would be so advanced as to be occupying many worlds and the resources required to save the Earth might not be worth it. Having said that, they would also be so far advanced to be well up the Kardashev scale, so who knows what incredible capabilities they would have. They may not need primitive mechanical means like counterweights.

The heat death of the universe isn't a survivable event, there remains just a scalar field, that may or may not generate a new big bang. After stars burn out though, there are still stellar remnants, white dwarfs, black holes, neutron stars.
