Iris PC21 avionics

Featured Replies

Just got this airplane and am enjoying flying it.  But a small item caught my attention. VS mode on the autopilot does not capture current pitch, but goes to 0 ft/min which is annoying..  Luckily, I bought the plane from Iris directly and not from the Marketplace, so the files are not encrypted.  So I had a look at the code.  With the help of @ark, I coded a small fix, and also improved the rollover of the digits on the speed and altitude tapes while I had the opportunity.

If you happen to own the PC21 and have also run into this, send me a PM for a fix.  😉

What do you mean by it doesn't capture current pitch?

I've talked to the developer and he said it behaves like the real thing,

The autopilot turns on in ROL/PIT mode, capturing current pitch.  That is correct.  When you now push VS, the vertical speed gets set to zero and the airplane starts to level off in VS mode, instead of continuing the climb.  That is awkward. If you push VS again, VS mode stays on.. instead of turning off.

If you examine the code, you can see that VS mode is intended to toggle on and off when pushing the VS button.

If you talk to the developer again, ask him about this! 😉

In the interim, my mods fix this behavior..

Bert,

This code, added to the [Autopilot] section of the systems.cfg should correct that behaviour in any (unencrypted) plane in MSFS:-

pitch_pid_reset_mode=2

...along with this existing one changed to a value of 3  :-

default_pitch_mode=3

Hmmm, tried it and not quite...  Now the autopilot defaults to ROL/VS mode 😟

But is it defaulting with the existing VS value, and not reseting to 0 ?

Appreciate that the real unit's basic mode would be ROL/PIT.

I've never seen any aircraft in MSFS default to VS=0 when VS is engaged.  Very strange.
