December 2, 20232 yr I've mentioned in another post that I'm not a fan of the Vulcan - it just looks coarse to me, as if it was designed by a bunch of schoolkids and the plans drawn up with crayons. But it is sort of a part of my childhood, what with the Observer's and other similar books, and I suspected I'd probably get it in the end. Didn't wait too long as it happens because I saw this livery when I was looking around on flightsim.to and thought it made the beast a lot prettier to my eyes. I still think it's basically an ugly Ess Oh Bee (assuming those initials are offensive to the ridiculous nannying here), but I'll live with it. Hedgehopping in this will be fun, I suspect. Out of curiousity, can anyone tell me why some of the liveries for some of the MSFS aircraft are so huge? The one I'm using here is 1.5 Gb, which is way bigger than most of the aircraft I have! Anyway, just one quickie for y'all. Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used
December 3, 20232 yr Cool shot, Andy. I know what you mean with the huge size of some of the liveries. They are usually in 8K. I am not a rivet counter, so I don't need 8K. That is why I normally bring those down to 4K and half the size by using Photoshop. Takes me less than 5 minutes. Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

December 3, 20232 yr Yes, Andy, I recall reading somewhere that your heart is not into this (memorable) plane...🙂...Still, glad finally you succumbed to the tug of it in our SIM.... Nice and expansive shot...thanks for sharing ...!

I grabbed a current copy of Gimp, and it has native support for DDS files, so open file, change scale, and then it has an option to export and replace in place and bingo! all done. From 8k to 4k, and from 1.5 Gb to 390 Mb. I can live with an 8k livery if it really is something special, and for a plane I really like, but otherwise it just strikes me as overkill. I know storage is relatively cheap these days, but I'm using M2 SSD for all the MSFS stuff and I'm already getting close to filling a 4Tb drive and getting an 8Tb or even 12Tb is not something I want to have to do just yet. 21 hours ago, Alaska738 said: Looks great Andy! 😉 Cheers Will 13 hours ago, pmplayer said: Fine shot from an interesting airplane Andy.. cheers 😉 Thanks PM 4 hours ago, P_7878 said: Yes, Andy, I recall reading somewhere that your heart is not into this (memorable) plane...🙂...Still, glad finally you succumbed to the tug of it in our SIM.... Nice and expansive shot...thanks for sharing ...! Cheers P, and although I don't particularly like the aircraft (and as a non "real pilot" I just find the whole cockpit completely unbelievable) but it's part of an emotional memory landscape. It brings back memories and images of things like listening to the Goons or Kenneth Horne on the wireless (as t'was known), the broadsheet Sunday rags, MacMillan in #10, and if I let myself really wallow in such things I've no doubt I'll start detecting the waft of rice pudding and roast dinners hovering in the air as well. None of which I particularly wish to recreate, but it's all part of my childhood I guess. December 5, 20232 yr Nice shot! I didn't think I would pick this up as I had no real emotional attachment but ended up getting it simply because it sounded like it was incredibly well done by Just Flight. I'm quite happy I did, it's a lot of fund and very satisfying to fly, I'm certainly enjoying it.
