A lot of suites according to av-comparatives and av-test perform better than Microsoft's own, both in terms of impact on Windows and game performance but also how effective they are. I know ESET's suite is very low impact. If it still hangs with that, you could probably rule out anti-virus being a factor as a whole. Given I've had a clean flight I'd like to keep to the same config for the next few days or until the situation happens again. I only use this PC for flying and visiting trusted web sites. A virus could only get in via other PCs and I have Avast on those. Ray (Cheshire, England).
