Take-offs in USA, 01/08/24

Recommended Posts

Horrible behavior...planes line up, then freeze, disappear and finally reappear in the air...one after another. Happens in both KJFK and KMCO, which were both used to be perfect PSXT playgrounds. RT Radar shows no such behavior. so I don't know whether its PSXT or RT issue.

Yap, same here in KMSP.

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

RT.

RT can handle "holes" in traffic data streams much easier then PSXT working on a 2D radar screen with much less resolution.

Save your arrows for Balthasar, you know his email address 😉.

BTW it is not all bad in the USA, KSEA and KBOS are fine. Same as EGLL, EHAM and LSZH over here in Europe, and I have only been at a few airports.

Nico,

Things are clearly deteriorating with RT. I have no doubt if only EHAM and YSSY would be left covered by RT, you would suggest us to go fly at EHAM and YSSY 🙂 However, people prefer to fly where they live.I know that there were limitations for RT/PSXT since day 1, but noone told me that those limitations would increase in number over the period of time.

...and of course I sent an e-mail to Balthasar, but to no avail as it's become very typical. I'm not angry or whatsoever, I just feel that my romance with RT/PSXT is coming to its logical end (license is expiring in March). I will obviously return when things improve.

It's fascinating to think what things would be like if we could... 😉

I too have emailed Balthasar a number of times since things started deteriorating 3-6 (?) months ago. Of course, we can continue to email him individually, but a suggestion I made to him to come on here and give community updates seems to have gone unheeded.

As a result, I too will simply forego renewing my professional RT subscription when it expires later this month. If and when things improve again, I'll look at resubscribing, but I can't say that I'm feeling like RT is a stable product at this point.

I have really enjoyed the experience of PSXT/RT, but RT seemed to be having difficulties covering its costs a year ago when the pricing was changed and it might just be getting worse, as people examine whether to renew or not.

Not for me it wasn't. Yesterday, I saw very little ground traffic despite plenty of arriving aircraft and the occasional departure. Those airliners that attempted to taxi out often just appeared stuck at a strange angle to the taxi lines on the apron.

LFMN was a ghost town.

Thankfully, my home airport of EGLL is still working well.

PSXT has become truly excellent, stuttering fixed, smooth taxi turns. However, the recent change in data feed provider is making me question the $200 p.a. fee.

I can understand your feelings. You can also consider going back to a standard license, that's only 100$ a year and hope for the better.

Balthasar is exploring options. Let's see what the future may bring.

Yes, KBOS was a mess yesterday (i ran it in historical mode) and it still is.

I have my RT Professional license expiring in two days. I haven't heard much from others about any changes to the ground traffic data feeds. Should I take it that it's still in what many of us would consider a degraded state?

Unless it has improved dramatically in the last three weeks, I think I'm not going to renew it.

I would describe it as temporaraly good usable at less places in the world. 😉

Balthasar is still talking to parties, it may take another month.

Thanks for the update and perspective Nico. Another month to decide if he is going to onboard another data provider, or another month to decide that and have them added and tested?

By the way, I saw the recent development of the application to add in the ability to reduce the amount of traffic to a max live cap. Although I'm currently not using the program, I want you to know that your efforts to always keep PSXT fresh and fitting everyone's myriad needs is always greatly appreciated!!

FSLTL is using some sort of free source of data from RADAR24 and when I’m running both FSLTL and PSXT together the position of aircraft is quite close.
I wonder if exploring different sources of data would not be something to consider.
There was a short period of somebody running a free source called ADSB which was dismissed what about RADAR24free as an alternative source of data .
In the beginning the behavior of aircraft was very rarely unusually silly as it is now completely out of control in many places.

Free sources never give data positions of all aircraft, "world wide" every 2 to 10 seconds. Forget that.

Hi Nico,

This may not be the right topic for this question, but I went ahead and took a leap of faith that RT will return to its prior functioning in more places around the world 😉  so I renewed my RT Professional license.

I loaded into KDEN today and shifted the time back to about 1300 local today to see the traffic movements. The PSXT window was showing a QNH of 1005 and the sim had a weather setting of about 1008. I saw all the planes were landing way short, so I changed the sim QNH to 1005 and I still was having all the planes land way short (about at the start of the runway lights before the apron).

I seem to recall that you have previously mentioned that PSXT does not work well with QNH values that are too high or too low. Is there any chance that QNH can be removed from the equation and GPS altitude used? Should changing the sim QHN have rectified the problem?

Thank you,

Michael

The log doesn't show anything about the QNH values anymore, it seems, but here it is nonetheless:
