PILOT's 2024 Global Mesh -V- ORBX Global Base

Featured Replies

Thinking of grabbing one of these for my Prepar3d v5.4 setup, either the Pilot's 2024 Global Mesh or Orbx Global.  Just curious which you chose (if you did) and how are you liking it?

Thanks!

PC Specs: Intel Core i7 12th Gen 12700KF 2.7GHz Processor | Microsoft Windows 11 Pro | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB GDDR6X | 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM | 1TB Solid State Drive | 10/100/1000 Network | 802.11ax Wireless | Bluetooth 5.1 | AIO Liquid ML 240L RGB Cooler

Two different products. Orbx global isn't mesh. Depending on where you fly the mesh can be very beneficial for elevation fixes.

If the areas you fly in look blah then orbx base will give some life to those areas by giving better textures and fixing landclass errors.

Both are beneficial depending on your desired outcome.

Pilot's Global Mesh plus ortho scenery is the best possible combination with final result quite close to visuals in MSFS

You have my attention. Where do I get ortho scenery for P3D? I assume that’s different from photo scenery of which I have plenty?

Ortho is geometrically corrected, not affected with projection as photo.

I create my own ortho files with program called FSET ( another one is 'Ortho4XP' )

Higher settings ( 1px=1m ) gives great results, flying for example over Mediterranean islands is stunning.

Minus of this method is long creation of each ortho map ( hours ), and large size ( only for ortho i have 4Tb drive, for example Israel map is 32Gb, tiny Malta is 1.3Gb )

Once u see ortho&Global Mesh in action then you forget about ORBX 🙂

Wow. That sounds amazing but quite laborious.

In fact it is not that bad, i often leave computer on for night calculations and next day map is ready, then you only add map location in P3D and that is it.

Since I had some extra money left over from Christmas, I went ahead and got both and installed both. Holy cow! What a difference they make from a pilot perspective.

I might check out the Ortho option at some point, but right now I’m gonna have a lot of fun flying around with all this new scenery and mash.
