Ortho4XP 1.4 Alpha now on Github

Recommended Posts

Just a heads up, the new update for Ortho4XP is now on github

https://github.com/oscarpilote/Ortho4XP

This does X-Plane 12 compatible meshes (with season support, bathymetry, etc).

Oscar indicates that some of the water features might not look too good until 12.1.0 is out. Happy tile compiling!

Tony,

I just started using AutoOrtho, and XP12 makes me even happier (which means the mean time between uninstalls will surely grow considerably 😁)...

OFC I know they're different solutions but I wonder if in some way they can combine?  For instance, does AutoOrtho use Ortho4XP to build it's own orthos, and if it does will a new version be possibly using this new version of Ortho4XP ?

Main Simulation Rig:

Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti, 1 TB & 500 GB M.2 nvme drives, Win11.

Glider pilot since 1980...

Avid simmer since 1992...

I think autoortho just uses Ortho4XP for the base mesh files (but skips the texture part). So it should just work

However, I'd wait for a little bit, this is still alpha and a work-in-progress, and I'm sure the base mesh tiles will be updated shortly

This is the one we all been waiting for. This is going to open the flood gates. 😃

Just a warning... I tried to update a few tiles I have, but it's fairly buggy. One tile ended up trying to generate 45 million triangles and crashing X-Plane (Tile +48-124)

Maybe I will wait until 12.1 is out to use it since the results may fair better with the new 3D water that is coming.

That's odd. I just tried that tile to test and only get 3.5mil. USGS 1/3", tol 0.75. That makes sense on my end given that said tile is 50% water.

What's also odd is that the git updates were mostly (a ton of) C src code. The final exe that it it all builds is indeed in the Util folder but doesn't get called by any of the pythons. I don't think any of the imminent changes are turned on quite yet. No change to GUI either. He's probably waiting till 12.1 to fully release the hounds.

Triangle4xp is used for generating geometry, it builds into one of the libraries used by the python. I dont see any other c changes?

Yeah I was only looking at the commits from a couple days ago. Didn't see what @tonywob was noticing today.  Ooops!

For real this time, with xp12 water turned on... 24mil tris. Didn't crash XP but does have some fun bugs:

No. For streaming, you want to look at autoortho. But that one doesn’t fully support xp12 seasons yet.
