MSFS Auto FPS App

Thanks for your reply.

The descent  rate of autoflight is fixed at 900. I guess it may be a condition of RTSS fixed frame rate setting. I was too focused on the frame time fluctuation, and the stress on the system caused by the complex and dense high rise buildings in New York. Maybe I am too sensitive to numbers, I need to spend time to observe.

If you were descending at 900 fpm, the TLOD step size would be about 4-5 per second which is normal and not what I would call aggressive at all. Perhaps if you message me your log file section of when this happened I can assess the situation better, but at face value the app is working as designed. If you want smaller steps than this, increase your avg descent rate to at least 2000 fpm.

Make them read "FPS (VFR)" and "TLOD (IFR)" for instance.

Great idea! Easy to understand with a more detailed explanation with mouse-over pop-up. Thanks to @FalconAF for the idea! (having some trouble keeping up with this thread, but I think it was his idea).

I could just use VFR and IFR terminology and have tool tips that state "Prioritises FPS for all flight phases, except on ground" for VFR and "Prioritises TLOD at low altitude and FPS when higher" for IFR. Or something like that.

Radio buttons would be very slick yet intuitive.

Its incredible what you are doing but I have one remark :

the idea was a set it and forget it app. But at this moment many features have been included and imho it is becoming an Advanced user App. To get very good results one need the Expert options. And there are many settings.

Adaptive Lod also has a FPS option like AutoFPS.  Both have a min / max Lod.

The idea of the simple AutoFPS App compared to the more enhanced Adaptive Lod App has been turned around being AutoFPS the more advanced App..

You are doing a great job but isn’t it starting to get too much ?

I get excellent results with non-expert mode. Then there's only really two options: auto target FPS on or off. Don't see how it can be much simpler and user-friendly. In addition there's a plethora of expert settings.

Another NYC video in all its photogrammetry-glory (I know, opinions on this are heavily divided). 4K HDR DLSS ultra quality, FPS 70-80, TLOD 500, OLOD 900. Again the music copyright passed YT's content ID claim 🍾

Micro-stutters were induced by recording - not seen without. Promise. I'm using very hi-res capture settings. Also HDR rendition doesn't work that well.

Had to troubleshoot a FG-related bug (massive stuttering when capture starts). Found an easy fix: pressing Alt-Enter twice.

Tested with non-expert mode too. Just as smooth, TLOD 500 OLOD 180.  Auto-target-fps on:

As @Cpt_Pietthas already said, non-expert mode still maintains that simple interface, per the screenshot below. Run the app, pick your FPS (or have the app pick it for you), pick a flight type and go. Pretty simple I think.

As soon as you click "Use Expert Settings", you are declaring yourself to be an expert and you should not be surprised by the swiss knife array of settings you are presented with. I am totally fine with this.

And some good new for battle weary AutoFPS testers. No new test version today! I need to learn how to interface radio buttons and UIs are my kryptonite 🤪

...and I need to catch up on some sleep, or I'll start seeing FG-related artifacts around my apartment - or start speaking Gungan. I had great fun making the videos though. Having tested your app in what is probably MSFS's most demanding scenery, with seemingly unrealistic TLODs and OLODs, in both "set and forget" as well as expert mode, I can happily say that it passed the test - with flying colours!

Here I need to use the Expert options to fine tune the small stutters.

AutoFPS does not make it smoother by itself. So then it is up to Expert options and less simple ….

My Lod still goes up/down to often with Auto target FPS.

That's great. Those two bugs I mentioned earlier today have already been fixed but since they aren't show stoppers they can wait a bit for release. Rest easy Captain. The rebels will not be coming today. 😄

Well then tell me much more about these stutters so I can do something about them in non-expert mode rather than just tell me my app is no longer simple. FPS caps, log files, screen shots, flight profile the works. Message me if it is too detailed to put here.

I don't disagree with this - I too get the best results when tweaking expert settings until my face goes blue 🙂 But I'm also getting very decent results using auto-mode. I get it that not everyone will achieve the best results, but then again I've spent the better part of last week tweaking and testing several test builds, as well as putting many, many log files under forensic analysis...

Again, I don't doubt at all that you have not made your absolute best efforts getting the best possible results. I've gathered as much reading many of your posts. Just looking at your signature and we can immediately tell you're no casual simmer 😄

Thanks. Tomorrow is my day off and I can test.

Up to now I am using Adaptive Lod for most flights and test with AutoFPS, but I would prefer it all automatically..
