Post Processing Effect Vignette in useropt.cfg?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know exactly what this setting in the useropt.cfg file is suppose to do? It's currently at 1 and I tried changing it to 0 and see no difference. I'm not sure where to look exactly.

Straight from google: "Vignette is an effect that simulates the darkening in real-world camera lenses. High quality lens try to compensate for this effect. The effect is mostly noticeable near the edges of the image." I have it off, as I do not like the visuals being like looking through a camera lense, so also all other camera effects off for me (like lense flare etc.).

A lot of these settings like Fringe and Film Grain etc. only seem to apply in the hangar.

You can easily see this if you enable or disable 'Fringe' and go into the hangar after adjustment.  Fringe gives the horrible coloured light bands around the edge. (Why-oh-why would anybody want this?)
Obviously, you never see this when flying if it is activated, only in the hangar.

I really don't know what they were thinking of by putting a lot of these settings in the same grouping.  They will just confuse people, as some of them, such as Sharpen, Lens Distortion, and Eye Adaptation do actually work in the sim itself, not just the hangar.

I believe 'Dirt' is for the dirt on the windscreens but I Haven't tested it myself as edits to the user config file require a complete sim restart.  Which is the other thing, is it really to hard to have an in sim setting like for the other settings?
Asobo make no sense to me sometimes.  A lot of stuff seems half-baked.

In the sim, the shadows setting slider only goes to 2k (which shows as 2048 in the file), yet in the user config file you can set it to 6144 to make the shadows perfect, and no performance issue (unless you are running Intel internal graphics ).
This should be another standard option to make the sim look better for everybody - no more flickering feather edged shadows.  Just little things they could attend to so quickly.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Isn't there a "foto mode" when using the drone? Might also be that the effects are shown when using this "foto mode" in addition to the hangar. Who knows, as I wrote, those things are always the first things I turn off in any game.

Yes, good point.  I haven't used drone mode for years.  I had problems setting up an Xbox controller for it.
I may look at it again as I recently found an old Xbox controller, and some of the latest scenery and aircraft are looking great with the levels of detail they are now achieving.
