April 14, 20242 yr Hi Dave, Last night I was assigned an RNAV approach that is an RNP approach. It's not an approach I can do in the TDS GTNxi and so I tried requesting an ILS, but it was denied due to the winds at the time. I couldn't figure out how to request a different RNAV into the SE runway, and when I requested an RNAV to the active runway, I didn't get a response. Is there a way to configure the app to not assign RNP approaches, or to change within the type of approach that's assigned (from Y to Z, for example)? Thanks.
April 14, 20242 yr Commercial Member There's currently no information in the Navigraph or NavDataPro AIRAC data to indicate an RNP approach type. What airport and specific approaches are you referring to and I can have a look to see what, if anything might provide a clue that could be used. In the meantime, you can select the desired approach in the Flt Plan and use the "Force Pilot Runway Selection" option in Config (Which also forces the selected procedure) to ensure you won't get approaches your aircraft is not equipped to fly. As such a northeasterly landing would have had too much crosswind and so P2ATC was right to deny the request for an ILS landing into Runway 06. It's fine if the program can't descriminate between RNP approaches at the Navigraph level, but it would be great if I could request a specific approach rather than an approach type. In this instance, I got RNAV Y to Runway 18 assigned, but that's an RNP approach that isn't in my TDS unit. I wanted to request RNAV Z to Runway 18, but couldn't get that to happen. Yes, I suppose I could have selected the desired approach in the interface and selected that "Force Runway Pilot Selection," but I generally don't do that so that P2ATC can pick the appropriate procedures based on changing weather. I ended up coding in the waypoints for the approach manually and had flying it so the charts and the nav system helped me out anyway, but another issue that arose is that I was told to expect the RNAV Y approach, but I was never cleared to it and I was still quite high when I was gettng too close and so I deviated and just flew the approach. P2ATC kept telling me to climb back up, but I think it was an error. April 14, 20242 yr Commercial Member Looking at the log, it would appear the program got confused. On its own, it would have given vectors to final for the RNAV to RW18, but I suspect when you requested the RNAV approach, not asking for vectors, it got confused and didn't give you the descent or clearance. I will add the verbal requesting of specific approaches ant transitions to the future enhancements list. Dave

Dave Yeah, I though I might have confused it and contemplated getting vectors to the approach, but the other issue I was dealing with was a failed autopilot, so I figured I'd just hand fly the vector anyway and I could see that on the GTN unit.

It is very common at the smaller slower Canadian airports.
