To paraphrase Spike Milligan 'I swore I'd never buy another AH aircraft. The Hurricane could be it'. It looks beautiful, but I'll examine the reviews with a microscope. Hopefully ITBS will do a full inspection.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

I'll pass....great plane, but prefer the Spit.  Now....throw a Typhoon my way and I'm all over it.  Love the big radiator up front...makes it look...menacing.

Can't argue with that - love that beast.

What is the purpose of hanging the parachute and harness on the tail of the plane?

Scrambling to an aircraft whilst wearing a parachute was harder than doing so without it, so it was common to have it sitting on the tailplane. The pilot would put it on whilst the engineer was starting the engine etc, with assistance from another member of ground crew. It was more practical than leaving it on the wing where it could slip off or impede ground crew with their preparations.

In this Pathe film, you'll see a pilot running towards the parachute at about the 5 minute mark.

The BoB video above reminds me that in the last episodes of All Creatures Great and Small, James was drafted into the flying service. And will be a pilot at the start of the next season. Unfortunately in real life, James Harriot did not last long there and was sent home. So we probably still won't have a series showing the Battle of Britain. A pity :(.

Mosquitoes, Hurricanes, Spitfires!

Both the Hawker Hurricane and the Singer Sewing Machine have Check Bobbins warning decals. 🙂
