May 22, 20242 yr I just started the sim to check out an airport I was thinking of buying, and got a weird initial screen with a narrated text, followed by a set of "we've found these devices", "do you want to use online data" etc type screens, and when it eventually came up pretty much everything on my setup had changed. No controller mappings, most of my settings all over the place etc. Anybody else getting this? I'm not on the beta, and there was no info about any system update, just weird stuff. It all looked like some kind of fresh install, but not as I remember it. System was running fine just a few hours ago, but quite a bit stuttery so I wonder if this is someway in prep for SU15? I've now shut it down and restarted. No weird screens this time but all settings still lost. Version level showing as 1.36.2.0. This second attempt was quite slow starting up and task manager showed a lot of network activity while it was starting. Looks like I shall have to spend yet another day fixing MAsobo's mess tomorrow. May 22, 20242 yr Simply put, you ain’t the first. It’s been known to happen. So much so that more than a few take screenshots of all important settings. YMMV but it can and does happen for no apparent reason -B

May 23, 20242 yr Author @btacon, @kiek, thanks for that. I sort of guessed it would be just one of those "my turn in the barrel" sort of things, but thought I'd ask in case it was pre-update related. I do have all my visual settings documented in my spreadsheet, but I'll have to experiment a bit to figure out all the other stuff I had turned off (I don't use a lot of the piloty stuff, like ATC etc). And I guess I'll be having a screenshot frenzy once it's all sorted out again. And it had all been going so well . . . May 23, 20242 yr It's happened to me enough times to know all my settings off by heart. Nvidia Experience can reset your settings unless you turn it off Sometimes a reboot can bring them back and you can try logging out and back into the X Box app. All in all very annoying, but not as bad as MS wiping your drive and all your addons along with it which it has done to me at least twice. May 23, 20242 yr It is has happened to me another way to rectify is repair the implementation in Programs. Don't use reinstall or you will be stuck. It has worked for me along with the reboot suggestion.

Ouch! Tried the reboot/logout/back but no difference. Controller settings are the main drag for me, lots of non-standard stuff set up there. Again, got it all down in my spreadsheet but . . . 59 minutes ago, markmasterson said: It is has happened to me another way to rectify is repair the implementation in Programs. Another PITA right now is that SU15 is in progress, which potentially complicates matters maybe. I'm sure I'll get it all back in the end but it is all amazingly annoying. I can't believe there's no simple way to just save/export these settings locally, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised - MS seems determined to take over total control of all systems running Windows one way or another. I can see why it might make sense for a lot of the user base who may have zero knowledge or desire for knowledge about their systems, but I've been using computers since before Bill Gates hit year seven at school. May 23, 20242 yr Andy - If you go into your controller settings they will be set to default but at the top, you can usually get your settings back on the controller by selecting your own saved settings rather than default. I can't remember offhand what they calk the next setting along Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

I got so thrown in to panic mode that I missed that. I'd assumed I had changed the defaults but you're right - I had another lot of settings and they came back up ok. The rest of the lost stuff is much more straightforward. Plus, this has made me think a bit more about my controller settings and suchlike and I may make a few changes now anyway, so maybe it's silver linings and clouds etc. Still shouldn't have happened though, and it just reinforces the paranoia about being dependent on the cloud.
