July 16, 20241 yr Just got the Burning Blue Design EGBT, Turweston, airfield. I always enjoy their products, got them all, pretty much. Thought I'd do a short circuit (probably should have phrased that better, but you know what I mean) in the neighbourhood and thought Rob Carrich's Whirlwind would be a fine thing to see here. DId my usual thing of lots of pix of the airfield but I'll spare you those and just post mostly flying stuff (but I heartily recommend EGBT as a great place to explore up close). First up, here's the route taken - And here we are parked up to start with Ok, ok, if you insist. Here's just one of the control tower/restaurant etc Heading up the grass taxiway to the head of the runway Getting ready for the off and away we go I've always liked this plane. I think it looks absolutely marvellous and always thought, as a kid, that it must have been a ferocious beast as a fighter in its day, but apparently it was a bit of a failure. Don't remember the whole saga off the top of my head but I think the problem was it actually underperformed quite dramatically. I seem to remember something about not getting supplies of the Merlin it was designed for as they all went to the Spitfire and this beast ended up with something not really powerful enough for it. Or something like that. But the buzz flying it must have been spectacular Approaching Brize Norton Heading back now, towards Oxford Dreaming spires and Inspector Morse alert Not sure, Kempton Park maybe? Turning round again to head back in, RAF Cranwell below us now Ahh! Milton Keynes, the 987,039,077th wonder of the world! Heading in (badly) parked up Imagine having that as your own private plane (as this one actually was, post war)! July 17, 20241 yr Great set and good looking scenery and aircraft! 🙂 The Whirlwind reminds me off an aircraft I had in FS9 which was the Grumman F7 Wildcat I think, very strong. Got the "new bing maps" thing going now on my system, along with the Lossless Scaling app, and post - SU15 it's all behaving and looking well. Get a few pauses occasionally but nothing that jars. So been doing a bit of exploring (and grabbing loads of pix) 18 hours ago, andiflyit said: Great set and good looking scenery and aircraft! 🙂 The Whirlwind reminds me off an aircraft I had in FS9 which was the Grumman F7 Wildcat I think, very strong. Thanks! I really love this plane and don't use it enough. But then I do have at least a couple of hundred aircraft in the hangar by now so they have to take turns!
