August 6, 20241 yr I'm taking a flight from Mc Call, ID to Jackson Hole, WY. We've got our speedy RV-8 with IFR equipped G3X/GTN. Scenery from Orbx (KMYL) and Dreamflight's KJAC. Hot red paintjob by master painter TimHH. In this flight I'm simulating the use of oxygen for cruising at 17,000. Routing is KMYL DNJ V298 DBS V520 JAC KJAC - we end up cancelling IFR approaching Driggs Idaho and maintain VFR for a incredible mountain view landing at KJAC. I highly recommend both MYL and JAC scenery - the flight wasn't too long either. I also recommend the new SWS RV-8, has an analog and glass cockpit, excellent sounds and a great flight model for hand flying or autopilot usage for long legs. Untitled-1 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr A quick intersection departure as the RV8 makes short work of the runway - we'll fly SSW to make our climb to 17,000 and turn east on V298 Untitled-2 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Untitled-3 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr A lovely low fuel flow at 17k - one of the nice features of the G3X is the ability to display charts (with Navigraph), even this VFR sectional which I like to periodically pull up for situational awareness... not a lot of options with an engine failure Untitled-6 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr We have a strong quartering tailwind but still maintain about 170 knots over the ground Untitled-8 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr I can use my GTN 650Xi to check out nearby strips in case of an emergency Untitled-9 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Off my right wing by about 80 miles would be Sun Valley, ID (KSUN) Untitled-10 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Coming up to the foothills of the Teton range (on the west side) and Driggs, ID Untitled-15 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr There are many beautiful ranges in the world, but the Tetons are my most favorite! Grand Teton stands out at an elevation of 13,775 ft. Untitled-16 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr We've canceled IFR and begin a slow VFR descent Untitled-17 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr I hiked this valley some 25 years ago - a wonderful view from above Untitled-20 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr We fly overhead KJAC and enter an extended left downwind for runway 19 Untitled-23 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Untitled-25 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr Ramp appeal Untitled-27 by Ryan Butterworth, on Flickr And some bonus views of the airport proper... Dreamflight really knocked it out of the park with this one... August 6, 20241 yr Very nice set, the third last shot shows a perfect overview of the KJAC scenery including Teton Range. I like such "zoomed out" shots which really provide some information how it is all positioned.
