Instant scenery-wow! A few questions

Recommended Posts

TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=0000OK,I give up.I knew where to find that entry once but I have looked all over and I can't find it.Is this something I added at one point and then did not put back when I reinstalled for SP1?Thanks,Ron

You have to manually add those lines into your fsx.cfg under the {Terrain} section. You can adjust these numbers from a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 4500 each I believe. This tweak works in conjunction with your autogen slider.Nice work Geoff! Your shots look great!

Thanks Geofa a really nice compromise to the autogen/building/trees thing.

Thanks Gary..thats very useful. I've bee writing down on a piece of paper where I saw what. :) I can stop that now.BTW.. do you know where I can get more objects? Payware or freeware for FSX?I need things like more hangars and white picket fences, train stations, trains and rail cars etc and whole lot of stuff! I need that hangar in Geofa's screenshot.. But I don't know where it is stored. FSX USes lot more stuff then what we can access it looks like.I am going haywire like a maniac with this.:)Manny

Welcome one and all to scenery design. Now you get to worry about things like FPS hit and the sort. And then there is this little problem of SP1, SP2 and Acceleration. Which one does the end-user have installed??Some third party FS9 objects offered animations, such as hangars and gates, but I don't know if they work within FSX. Or FSX SP1, FSX SP2 or FSXA...Then there's the transparency problems, but that's another couple of aspirins to take!

Here is my home airport Geofa.I am not too happy with it..but its a start/Here is the real shot of my home airport 52F (Northwest regional). Its next to Fort Worth Alliance. KAFW. It looks like I am too high.. Actually I am not that high. Its a very narrow runway (40feet) X 3,500feet. So it gives that illusion. My friend who was sitting next to me took that shot.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182250.jpgNow, my scenery. :)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182251.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/182252.jpgDoes anyone know if there is a reverse thermal that I could use in FSX. Typically during summer..when I approach to land at 35 at 52F, when I go over that wooded area, I get that sinking feeling...because of the cool air, the aircraft just drops just when I get close to land. I would like get that effect going. :) Most often the winds are from the south here in Dallas area...so we always approach from runway 17. But occasional we get to use runway 35 which is really interesting to approach over those trees.Manny

Thanks for posting about this program.I just purchased it and jumped right in without reading the manual.I made some nice changes to KILG and the Port where I work. Now when I'm sitting on runway 1 I can see the fast food restaurants and strip malls on route 40. I also added the old terminal building and some static aircraft. And I added a few light poles and discovered they actualy work at night. Then I added the cranes I operate for a living to the port where I'm employed, and a compliment of ships at the dock. This is too easy and it adds alot to the sim. Now I think I'll have to learn how to make satelite pics into backgrounds.I need to look for some parking lot surfaces. I used one of the flat roofs that look like concrete and it looks pretty good.I'd also like to have some real fast food restaurants like Mickey D's, Wendy's, Burger King, etc. And some car dealership looking buildings.I also added a hot air balloon flying at 600m near the Delaware Memorial Bridge.Cool stuff, thanks Geofa.

Hi Manny (and others!):The FS2004 library format scenery objects should work in both FS2004 and FSX, although I've not had a chance to see what has happened with these legacy format objects when transparency methodology changed in FSX SP2.The RWY12 library object files are reportedly compatible too, and I am told that some effects and animations may also be placeable with Flight1's FSX and FS2004 compatible Instant Scenery by Konstantin Kukushkin (the successor to Abacus' FS2004 only EZ-Scenery, also by Konstantin Kukushkin). Here is a list containing some EZ-Scenery type (FS2004 library format) packages:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+View <-- All 1 URLAnd here is a list containing some RWY12 type (also FS2004 library format) packages:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+View <-- All 1 URLA couple of caveats: some packages contain re-packaged / duplicated default FS2004 objects and associated GUIDs which might unnecessarily add to FS rendering engine load; these put FPS at risk. Also, there is a fair amount of variation in distribution file layout of components of these packages, and extra patience is sometimes required to get the BGLs and texture files into the respective {package name}Scenery and {package name}Texture twin nested sub-folders.Occasionally the objects use textures that are expected to be available elsewhere in FS.But, regardless of the initial challenges sometimes incurred during installation, a big "thank you" is owed to the many authors who took the time to create these for us to use! ;-) CAUTION: This can be nearly as addicting as flying sometimes! :-roll Have fun! :-) GaryGB
