GEX or WWW?

Featured Replies

I am very satisfied with the GEX textures EXCEPT for the Grand Canyon, so far as I have explored. BUT these ARE beautiful textures. I have all updates and everything from GEX installed. The FSX original textures are backed up through GEX interface. I love flying around and down into the Grand Canyon... and I'd really want to replace the "sand dump truck" effect ... but I don't want to mess up the great GEX textures in other places as has been domonstrated by some of their trial flights (such as the Yellowstone flights).Has anyone simply added these files OVER the GEX installation without picking and choosing (a bit of challenge for a computer novice like me)? What is the bottom line? Are you satisfied... or is it a requirement to "pick and choose?"Thank You,Steve

Hi Steve,i prefer WWW for the Grand Canyon, but GEX is more "high-res" and less red/brown and fits better in other regions (e.g. Las Vegas). That's why i now use GEX above WWW.But South America and Iceland are looking really great with WWW.Everybody can see this different, so my bottom line is: make backup copies and test what you prefer. I'm very thankful to Aim

Friends...I was getting ready to install the new hard winter textures and I found this in the README:"You must download these files to complete the installation:www_pack1_part1_228501.zipwww_pack1_part2_228502.zipwww_update_01.zipwww_pack1_update02_228954.zip fileswww_pack1_update03.zip.www_pack1_update04.zip "My problem is that I CANNOT locate update04 in the AVSIM library. Is it there and I am missing it somehow? I have updates 1,2,3 but where is 4?Thank you,Steve

Just so everyone is aware, the next GEX update will include my own special mods which correct GEX for color balance, lighting, shadow and redefines the sharpness so the machine does not have to work as hard to maintain their clarity.I am addressing all seasons including hard winter which with fall and winter will now have much more color in it and all seasons including snowfall on the ground will respond to cloud cover and sunlight much better.Night lighting will become more dynamic and city lights create the illusion of real lights to the eye.You may review some samples here:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24627http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=24654http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=432124&page=3The modifications are in process right now.The 2nd Beta build of night is in being rendered as I type this. There have been several changes since those shots above were posted, all improvements. One of which is a much better transition at dusk and no more burnt orage-yellow lights at dusk or at night. Its a much more natural and realistic transition.Be aware of the fact that Aces did not model the Grand Canyon in a way that a texture can cover it so it looks like the Grand Canyon. It

Sorry Nils, I missed that somehow. Thank you very much! Steve

Thanks Tim :)I certainly do not have your talent for high end detail graphics production but I do know my way around Photoshop fairly well.

Well, the sand "dump truck" is indeed part of the scenery in the GC http://www.nps.gov/archive/grca/photos/images/D_1730.JPGIts not everywhere though and I know what you meanunfortunately Aces simply did not design the area with multilayers in mind, which is what the GC needs to allow textures to play right in that spot. 4 levels of textures would do the trick as long as they can be called based on elevation in the scenery.
