August 29, 20241 yr Orbx 'Global Base Pack' for FSX is currently discounted by 30%. Does anyone know if it regularly gets discounted by any more than this? I've had it on my wishlist for a quite a while but have been on the fence about spending more on FSX. Having said that, I find myself using FSX more than 2020 :) Thanks

Having said that, I find myself using FSX more than 2020 :) Thanks I think occasionally Orbx discount certain items by more than 30% but I'm not sure how frequently that happens and whether they would discount what must be a very good selling product by that amount. The Global Base Pack certainly makes a hell of a difference to FSX and when you consider the comparable product from Flight1 (the Ground Environment series of addons) would cost considerably more than that (even at the current Flight1 discount prices) if you wanted to cover the whole world as Orbx Global Base does. It is a great addon and, for me, was one of a small number of products which certainly raised FSX to a different level. Bill
August 29, 20241 yr Since MSFS was released, I don't remember seeing any discounts higher than 40%; it's usually 25-30%. Before that, Orbx used to be more generous. 3 hours ago, skyhigh75 said: have been on the fence about spending more on FSX I have the same dilemma regarding P3D. Last plane I purchased, I did so because it works for both sims. September 7, 20241 yr Orbx global is a good texture, i'd look into some sort of mesh to pair it with like toposim or fsglobal ultimate mesh. ScenaryAddon manager is a good one i hear to have, in case there is a default texture you can overide easily. i.e. for example, i didnt like the Nellis airport texture, but that was about it. They added grass by accident If you are still on the fence that is the order I would do it. Then add Orbx region packs, because those come with the mesh. Orbx global does not.

The Orbx region packs look absolutely amazing (I have them all for FSX) but anyone purchasing them for use in FSX needs to keep in mind that they have a significant resource impact. They are fine if you are flying with default aircraft but if you are using them with some of the more resource intensive addon aircraft and perhaps also have additional addon airport scenery in the region then you might quickly approach the FSX VAS limit which will lead to problems. Particular examples would be using Orbx Southern California with FSDT KLAX or Orbx Northern California with Flightbeam KSFO which you may be only able to use with low/moderate resource intensive aircraft. Indeed if I plan to fly to/from KLAX or KFSO in something like the PMDG 777 or Quality WIngs 787, then I will usually deactivate the Orbx regional scenery for that flight (I use a scenery configurator). But, as I've said, the Orbx regions are excellent and really come into their own on low level VFR flights. You just might need to be selective about which aircraft you use as staying within the 4GB VAS limit in FSX can be a bit of a balancing act! Bill
September 22, 20241 yr FSX/Orbx, still (need to) use medium settings when flying my favorite planes, generally A2A purchases. Although I spend as much time and distance as possible away from big cities, in any country that I fly. Which helps, quite a bit. I'm also not too keen on the Nellis area now and seldom use it. It's been awhile but it seems like the (AI) parking is messed up when I use My Traffic 6 Pro. I not be managing the 2 products together correctly. Lack of energy and time.
