Could be that people can no longer afford to buy the latest hardware and have to make do with older hardware.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Somewhat sad I guess, those specs from Steam represent hardware that’s a decade old.  I’ve given away my older hardware that is 3X better than what is listed in Steam survey.  One can buy used PCs 2X better than those specs for $200 … it does paint a rather doom and gloom picture for vendors creating 3rd party add-ons with intent to sell.

No wonder Steam has so many “Early Access” titles that never get finished if the customer base is as cheap as represented by that survey.

Given that most popular language is Simplified Chinese (line 9), could that be part of the explanation?

Average monthly income in China is ($3000-$7000 pending which survey source one wants to believe) … so if the implication was Chinese are cheap, not sure I’m onboard with that evaluation but it was certainly an interesting statistic.
