Tool to recognize MSFS2020 airports

Featured Replies

Hello,

So I run online software to choose a valid commercial flight to fly, in this particular case LFTH to LFPO.  I set up my simbrief flight plan and all my third party software, choose a livery, print out fuel calculations, etc.  Then I start MSFS2020 and all of a sudden the airport (LFTH) is not recognized, even though it is visible within the MSFS map.  Built in 1966 it's bizarre it is excluded although probably it is because of an adjacent naval base.  Also it happens from time to time that newer airports (most often in China) are also not recognized in MSFS2020.

So the main question: is there a tool available or way to tell what airports are recognized within MSFS2020 _before_ I start setting up the flight and all my third party software?  It is highly annoying to prepare the flight and go through all the trouble only to discover at the last step that MSFS2020 has no idea what airport I am flying from or going to. Usually the same airports are active and visible in Skyvector, Simbrief, etc. and have scheduled commercial flights, so there is no way to know from those tools that MSFS2020 would exclude them.

The first tool is of course the World Map in MSFS, but if you are looking for a tool outside of MSFS then I can recommend Little NavMap. It is free and scans your MSFS folders for all airports. Actually, Little Navmap uses a commandline tool called NavDataReader that is available on github to collect all airports and writes them to a sqlite file that can be read by simple sql readers or even imported in a spreadsheet.

Thanks, I already have LittleNavMap, and you are correct that it also sees the valid MSFS airports.  I looked for LFTH and sure enough the airport is visually there (just like MSFS map) but not recognized.  I will use littlenavmap to verify valid MSFS airports from now on while I am getting set up.  Thanks very much for the advice.

I use this great app as well as lnm as it enables me to search quickly and visually for all Asobe, Microsoft, orbx etc addons. I can separate the defaults from the handcrafted ones and even by type. I used it to then create multiple lnm circular routes for all the handcrafted addons in the whole world, region by region. Took a lot of work but I'll never need land in a boring default again!

It's entirely standalone. Addons linker, the way it works, will show all the ACTIVE strips in airport finder. I think it even scans your disabled addons but I'm not at pc right now. It's free. It's great. Its also good for picking a route. Pick start then tell it the kind of airports you want to land at and range etc and it will list them for you.

Is that all?!! You mean it cant do anything more than just this!?!!

  • Scan your Microsoft Flight Simulator Community, and marketplace folder for Addons
  • The app can scan for linked folders created with Addon Linker, scan runs automatically at the first start
  • Visualize your addon airports on a map
  • Generate flights between your addon, or any other airports
  • Calculate distance between airports, and get an estimated flight time with custom average speed
  • Display all MSFS airports, filter it by properties
  • Generate Departure / Arrival airports based on
    • Airport type
    • Country
    • Flight Distance
    • Flight time (ETE)
    • If addon scenery is available for the airport
  • Display bing 3d photogrammetry (The accuracy of the boundaries will improve over time, it involves a lot of manual work)
  • Display VATSIM and Ivao traffic and atc coverage (CTR atc boundaries may not fully be accurate yet, check it from other sources before your flight)
  • Filter add-on and default airports by ATC availability
  • You can generate SimBrief flightplans right from the app, and display ofp or PDF, or download flightplans for your aircrafts
  • Option to filter your addons on the map, or disable a specific one
  • Option to display precipitation, cloud data on map (Data source: RainViewer api)
  • Search airport by icao / airport name
  • Add multiple airports to route
  • Export route to .PLN format to open in MSFS or further editing in other softwares
  • Airport METAR data is displayed in selected airport data section if available for the airport (Data source: MET Norway)
  • Save app state and load it automatically for each session
  • Choose from several map style
  • Copy coordinates with right click
  • Scan GSX ini configurations

I gave the link and said what I used it for. Not what it COULD do. I thought of copy pasting the huge list of tasks it can do but.

1) that wouldn't have answered the op original q and the other q

And

2) I posted the link where all that info is located soo...
