ATC does not give me a STAR and Approach

Featured Replies

In flightplan I left Star and Approach empty when planning. Rw is filled automatic when selecting Airport, no way to delete it. Tested by entering an airport manually and it selected a rwy by itself.

At Dep airport if I leave SID empty Clearance gives me a SID, nice.

In real life, if I am not wrong, pilots get the STAR and RW from Approach controller when contacting them.
Just because weather or traffic might have changed when I arrive.

What happend to me was that Center told me to expect Vector to Rw 17L, nothing about a Star. Should not Approach do that, Star and Rw? Anyway Approach continued talking about Vectoring, no Star. There where several available.

I do not complain on P2A, very good and great but.......
In old MS FSX I had an ATC addon (forgot the name) and that one did exactly what I said above, Clearance give me a TO Rw and SID then Center told me to contact Approach and appr gave me Star and Runway + descend instructions, up to me ILS or not, but most of time ILS freq if available.

So can someone explain how P2A works in this area? If I fill in everything when planning and press Activate Approach it works nice, does not feel realistic. Seems P2A needs all info about a flight for it to work.

Forgot to say that it might be that real life procedures today demands all info when filing a flightplan!?

Can someone answer this? Real airline pilot?

Hi, I tested my go to Flight Plan to see if STAR, SID and APP is given.

My P2A setup is ATC Assigns SID, STAR and APP. Also Force Pilot RWY selection. Imported SB Flt Plan on purpose with NO SID, STAR or APP. YSSY/34L WOL H65 LEECE YSCB/35

At IFR Clearance P2A cleared me to WOL via WOL2 (SID) correctly. On APP I was vectored to ILS Y RW35. NO STAR assigned, yet there are STARs to chose from. So STAR didn't happen but the choice of APP was correctly given.

In lieu of a STAR you get vectors. It's not out of the ordinary in the real world if it's not very busy.

Yes that is true. I have read about real life airline approaches that they sometimes get a shortcut during approach when there are very low traffic so why not. SID/STARs do exists for separating in and out going traffic.

But then why a SID if there are almost no traffic, Direct To route would be best then!?

One thing I will try to test is if P2A change STAR and App. I will try to set an RW that is wrong if possible to do, tail wind. Then file that and see what happens at dest. Will P2A change that STAR and App?
What happens IF the wind have changes so much that planned RW is crazy to try to land on!? That can happen on a 3-4 hour flight.

Have happen to me in XP, I use Navigraph Charts and Simbrief for planning. And sometimes weather have changed so much so my planned Dest RW have to much Tail wind when I arrive.

Make sure you don't have the Force Pilot Runway Selection option checked and you don't have the Force Arrival button activated in the STAR and Approach selection panel of App-Dep Procedures.  Then P2A should be able to change the runway at the arrival airport if conditions change.

Also, if you want a STAR, set the Max Procedure Bloat % setting on the Flt Plan tab to a value of 50% or higher.  P2A won't assign a STAR if it take you too far out of the way if this setting is low.

One more thing.

Do you have plans for an in depth manual explaining every button, settings and so on. I would like to have that so I can "master" P2A, to know exactly what every setting does.
With examples showing what happens if we set this setting to this this will happen/affect that.

TIA
