2024 trades disk for download time-doesn't work for me

Featured Replies

2024 takes 3-minutes longer to go from pressing Play in the Steam window to Fly in the sim flight window than does 2020 with exactly the same addons and settings.  I am on a 1 Gb Xfinity connection and run everything on NVMe devices.

I can buy a 2 TB M.2 super fast PCIe 5.0 device for $180.  That is a one time pain and I am sure it is big enough for the sim stuff I want downloaded one time.

But, with 2024 I suffer the long loading times and occasional server problems every time I fly.

What kind of a benefit does MS/Asobo think they achieve with the download ALL data?

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D  / MSI X870 Tomahawk Mobo / 64 GB DDR5 memory / RTX 4070 Super with 12 GB VRAM / AORUS FO48U 4k display
NVMe for Drive C, an NVMe device dedicated to Flight Sim 2024 and a separate NVMe device for Flight Sim 2020 and an NVMe dedicated to 500GB of addons managed by AddonsLinker   / 1 GB Comcast Xfinity Internet connection / HP Reverb G2 / Tobii 5 Head & Eye Tracking

It seems people are having different experiences here. I load in 1:50 seconds consistently and it is 10 times better than 2020 for me. There are a lot of variables to consider now, but for me I certainly do not want to go back to 2020 and storing everything on fast drives.

Hopefully, however, when they open the marketplace you can download your aircraft and scenery to your drive and then it will be just like 2020 for you. Tomorrow there is a developer stream so we should find out when that will be.

I really don't know.  I can only think it is to save the storage space on the consoles.

I have a full spare 1Tb waiting there for 2024, even with 2020 taking up the other 1Tb (on a 2Tb NVMe drive obviously).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I just tried loading a flight in both 2020 and 2024 - a C152 at KLAS RWY 26R.

No traffic in either sim. I have the following add-ons in 2020: PMDG 738, Comanche, FSUIPC, about 10 payware airports (including FlyTampa KLAS)

2024
From launch to 'Start' button in 2 minutes 59 seconds
From 'Start flight' to 'Ready to fly' in 56 seconds
Total: 3 minutes 55 seconds

2020
From launch to main menu in 3 minutes 40 seconds
From 'FLY' to 'READY TO FLY' in 35 seconds
Total: 4 minutes 15 seconds
