RAM Usage, Load in freeze, ect

Featured Replies

So, a few observations. The first and I think most important is that MSFS24 uses far more RAM than Jorg let on. During all the live streams they made a point to say that 64gb will not be needed if you are not a streamer or making videos, 32gb should be fine. I beg to differ, especially if you use addons.

I was not having issues until after purchasing FSHUD and GSX Pro. More stutters, screen tearing, and even crashes. I was practically pulling what hair I have left out. My daughters boyfriend suggested I pull up my processes and see what was going on, something I had not thought to do in my frustration. The results were not what I expected.

MSFS2024 was pulling 17-22gigs of RAM on its own, with FSHUD almost capping me at 31. It was when my RAM usage was almost spent (or spent in some cases) that the lag hit, FPS dropped to 2 and, even while testing crashed to desktop.

I don't think the Asobo team accounted for addons when then mentioned RAM usage. I upgraded to 64GBs last night and the difference has been night and day. No more screen tearing, my FPS isn't tanking and I was able to use FSHUD with no issues. I paid attention to the processes during this and my RAM usage was pushing 40gb. That was with MSFS2024, FSHUD, several browser windows open and Google docs for my checklist.

Now, that brings me to my next issue. MSFS2024 does NOT like some programs in the community folder. I just purchased GSX Pro and it literally kills my 2024 experience. If I have it installed and attempt to load a flight it will spin and spin and never actually take me to the tarmac.

Another quirk, if I have FSHUD running before I load in the same thing will happen. However, if I wait until after I am in and then launch the program it works fine. Very frustrating because when I got it to work the one time it was amazing, especially push back.

Anyway, that all I can think of. Wanted to post this so it may help others. Hopefully the 2 patches coming will fix some of this VERY strange behavior.

I have no problem with using GSX in MSFS2024.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

It works for me but I have to be on the ground before I start the app. Otherwise I get the white spinning circle and it will never load the flight.

Mmh why would you NOT start the app on the ground?

They can't comment on RAM usage with add-ons as they have no development control over code external to theirs. So whenever a developer talks about RAM usage for their software, always take it to mean only with regards to their base software. It's up to third-party developers to manage their memory usage and highlight on their add-on specs what you can expect RAM usage to be with the base software plus theirs installed.

Would it not be simpler to have the program autostart during launch? I've read it 'is' supposed to start when the sim launches but it doesn't for everyone.

Still doesn't negate the issue at hand. Why would it cause the sim to hang and not load? I did not have the program for 2020 and am unsure if it would cause the same issue.

16Gigs is fine for default FS2024. Proof.

I'm sure the 4090 has nothing to do with that. 🙄 He is using the base sim, no add-ons which is where the issue is most prominent. I can run the base sim with no issues so that video is meaningless.

Oh you mean the couatl.exe doesn't start with MSFS for you? It does for me.

Yeah, it doesn't start for me and if I start it anytime before I load into the plane it will cause that spinning circle and never load in. Its so very weird because I've not seen anyone else have this issue. I have even uninstalled 2024 and GSX and reinstalled. It changes nothing. At least I figured out I can start couatl once I'm loaded in and can use it.

I'm betting the issue is a MSFS one and not GSX. Hope it may get fix with the larger patch this coming week.
