December 31, 20241 yr In 1922 Sigmund Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays, went on a manipulative advertising campaign for the Beechnut Breakfast Company using mass marketing methods based on his uncle's psychology theories. Bernays was the guy who coined the phrase "public relations". Bernays' job for Beechnut was to convince Americans that bacon and eggs were manly and correct compared to the finicky and virginal English, French, and Italian diets.
