January 23, 20251 yr Hello all, This is probably for Bert Pieke. I am looking at purchasing the Cockspur PHenom 100 but I notice from their website that they have the G1000 (presumably thge Working Title version) Whilst this unit in all my aircraft equipped with it and its performance is outstanding, I particularly dislike changing comms and Nav frequencies and find it very difficult and fiddly, particularly in VR. As Such, I am wondering if it is possible (and how) to convert the PH100 to the GTN750. I assume from all the reviews, which are not in the "rave"category, that it is a fairly simple and uncomplicated aircraft so the effort required to convert may or may not be worth it. Is there a JD version for the PH100 or does it have to be done manually. I have the premium version of the PMS GTN750 and would hope to utilize this. I would love any information that the community can impart to this old and feeble mind. Regards Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. ASRock Taichi X570 CPU Ryzen 9 3900x (not yet overclocked). January 23, 20251 yr I thought that mod was only for the OLD original G1000. I'm not certain though. If you have extra buttons on your controls you could just bind them to change frequencies/swap freqs etc. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 23, 20251 yr Author Ryanbatc, Mate, thank you so much for your response which, of course, makes a lot of sense. however I only have 2 spare rocker switches on my second saitek throttle quadrant. I could very well use those to rock back and forth from Comms to Nav but that still leaves me with the problem of altering the frequency itself in bumpy VR Flight. I am currently using the mouse for this type of function. and when moving this is pretty well a hit and miss operation. I am also, uncertain whether the G1000 in the PH100 is actually old school or indeed the Working Title version, but obviously I would very much like to replace it for the PMS GTN. Again, I stress that I have no problem with the functionality of the G1000 but the Frequency changing with the dials as opposed to the keyboard of the GTN is almost a deal breaker for me, I may well look into the entire remapping of my controls but I have to admit also that that is a last resort effort. Thanks again mate I really appreciated your response. Cheers Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. ASRock Taichi X570 CPU Ryzen 9 3900x (not yet overclocked). January 24, 20251 yr I don't know of any conversion to use the 750 but Bert would be the one who would know. I can tell you, I own the Cockspur Citation Mustang and it has the Working Title G1000(Nxi I assume) and since the Phenom 100 was released /later/ by Cockspur...I assume it too has the Working Title unit in it. There is always the expensive option -- the aftermarket G1000 hardware units you can buy. But I suppose in VR the only benefit would be a tactile use of the buttons and knobs and not the visual part of it. Probably not worth it just for that. FSReborn has a Phenom 300E in the works. Maybe it will be a little more VR-friendly regarding the knobs etc. etc. Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
January 25, 20251 yr Author Mace, Yes mate, I think I am stuck between a rock and a hard place with this. I would like to make three notes to your response. 1. I have no problem whatsoever with the Working Title G1000 ... it is incredibly functional and, as far as I can tell, very accurate. The only hastle is that in VR it is very difficult to change the frequency or even swap from Comms or Nav 1 to 2 in a bumpy flight. Reverting to key pressing 1 or 2 in the ATC panel is somewhat immersion killing. Changing frequencies is NOT a problem in non VR flight. 2. I am very much aware of the FSReborn effort and I am thoroughly convinced it will be a brilliant addition to MSFS2020. It certainly has to surpass the efforts of the current Phenom 300 according to reviews and users initial impressions. I am just hoping that it may have a GTN750 option if not standard. 3. The cockspur Phenom 100 is äpparently" a lightweight with little complexity so I may be better off waiting for FSReborn. I remember thoroughly enjoying the simple phenoms in P3D and of course the incomparable Phenom 300 from Aerobask in Xplane 11. However these were (for me) non VR flights. I also remember (fondly) Bert Pieke giving me incredible help with GTNs in various aircraft via Panel configuration changes in P3D. Maybe, I am just hoping that this may be possible with MSFS2020. Finally, I have decided that I will not consider buying the Cockspur Phenom without the ability to change the WT G1000. For me, at best, it will be a fun little uncomplicated aircraft to fly, but only with the GTN. Thanks also for the suggestion of the aftermarket G1000 hardware and I think you may well be right in that it would not be worth it. I think it would certainly be worth it if not for the VR factor.
