Quest 3 is very good. Quest 3S is NOT.

For instance on USA Amazon the Q3 is $499. And the Q3S is $299.

I've never had either, but youtube has videos warning flightsimmers not to get the S version. Apparently it is a very weak product. I like my PCL, but if that product did not exist, I would own a Q3. The other good ones would almost as much as my whole computer did.

My computer cost $1200, upgrade to 64GB was $97, cpu to 58003DX was $285, 4070 gpu was $555 = $2,137 including shipping and taxes. The computer for $1200 was IBuyPower. The 3 addons were Amazon USA.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

The Quest 3S is essentially the Quest 2 with Mixed reality capabilities added. Since I assume your focus will likely be flightsimming, the edge-to-edge clarity and higher resolution of the Q3's lenses are what will make all the difference, not to mention it having a better processor.

Processor in the 3S is exactly the same as the 3, they both have 8GB of RAM, so they can run exactly the same last gen games (which won't run on Quest 2).

The main difference is the screen (2064 × 2208 per eye in the 3 vs 1832 x 1920 in the 3S) and the optics (pancake vs fresnel), which of course for flight sim applications make the 3 better in general but, with a 4070 like the OP, the lower resolution of the 3S ( 7M/pixel vs 9M/pixel ) would make it a bit less demanding.

I tried q2 and q3 together when q3 came out and there was almost nothing between them performance wise for fps when running as high res as possible. if someone's got the little extra cash, I'd absolutely go the q3.

I think q3 is outstanding if you consider what you get for $799 au
