March 30, 20251 yr Greetings, Just noticed Drezwecki released KMDW. Anyone purchase this yet? This is my home airport and I would like to get it if its worth it. I learned how to fly there back in the late 60’s when it was t busy. Thanks in advance.
March 30, 20251 yr I've been wondering the same. It's on my list to purchase, soon, I hope. April 10, 20251 yr Well, I just realized I had enough points saved up to get KMDW for $0.00. So, I'm off to install and check it out. Hope to get a flight into MDW within the next few days. I'll report back on my findings. I plan on using my XP12.2 beta install for the first assessment. Clear skies! April 10, 20251 yr Did not have time for a flight, but was able to spend a little time at DD KMDW and here are my initial thoughts/findings: 1. Overall, the layout matches the current airport diagram charts. All of the buildings are there where they should be. Everything looks nice and clean with no apparent mis-aligned taxiways, etc. Seems to be a very nicely rendered KMDW. 2. One glaring issue I have with this first (1.0) version is with the jetways. They all pair/mate up nicely with the static a/c. However, when activated on my Toliss A20N, at gate A11, the leading edge of the jetway was halfway into the fuselage. After relocating to another gate (B12), the jetway was closer to the exterior of the a/c but was not close enough to appear attached. In other words, still a gap between it and the fuselage/door area. These are SAM activated, by the way. Hopefully they will fix this in an update. 3. Performance wise, there were no noticeable issues on my very meager, bottom dwelling pc. Good frame rates, smooth viewing around the airport, no stutters or pauses. 4. My biggest gripe - why does DD insist on using an installer app instead of allowing the end user to unzip and manually place the folders/files where they belong, like almost all of the other developers for XPlane? Oh, I forgot to mention, this is the windows version only. For MAC & Linux users, they provide the zip file. Once I am able to fly into MDW, I'll be looking forward to seeing how things go on approach, landing & taxi. Until then, clear skies! .Edited to add: I forgot to mention I am using the latest beta version - XP12.2.0b2, that just came out, today. April 11, 20251 yr I posted on the DD XP12 forum and was informed I could use the zipped KMDW file provided by X-plane store. I never thought to look into the file previously as it was marked for Mac/Linux, whereas the exe installer was designated Windows version. I'm not able to try the zipped file until later today. I'll report back on the outcome. I also mentioned in their forum KMDW thread about the ill-fitting jetways and hopefully they will look into that and produce a fix. April 11, 20251 yr It is definitely possible to install the DD KMDW in Windows 10/11 by using the zipped file marked for Mac/Linux. I'm not sure why they just didn't label it as "for manual install in Windows/Mac/Linux" instead. Anyway, it works, so if that initially was a put off for anyone on the fence about purchasing KMDW, no worries there. Now, if they will fix the jetways issue, all will be well.
