June 19, 2025Jun 19 Good day (or whatever the time is wherever you are 🤪) guys and gals. As per the title. Came home from work and figured I'd power up the computer and do a job in APL2. Absolutely nothing when I pressed the power button. Tried a couple of times. More than a little bit stressed about all this, I figured the PSU had given upp. Shut of the power on the PSU and yanked the cable and started making up all these worst-case-scenarios type fantasies: 'everything is gone. Disks are burnt and everything. Woe is me'. A couple of minutes later I thought 'well, if everything is ruined I might just try one last time before dissecting the computer and start looking for the cause'. So I plugged the power cord in. Switched the PSU on and pressed the power button on the front. The computer lights up and boots normally. Checked the logs upon entering windows to look for clues (couldn't actually remember if I turned the computer on before leaving for work and was wondering if it had crashed while I was away). Nothing there indicating anything. Kind of stumped. What has happened here..? Everything seems to be running just fine right now (on a four hour flight in the iFly 737 in MSFS2024).  Richard 7950x3d  |  32Gb 6000mHz RAM  |  8Tb NVme  |  RTX 4090  |  MSFS  |  P3D  |   XP12 Â
June 19, 2025Jun 19 Had a similar situation years ago. Turned out the power cord from the wall was pulled loose at the PSU. A real "doh!" moment. June 19, 2025Jun 19 In electrical terms this is often called a dry joint, this can be the wall plug or the power lead connection on your PSU. Removing the lead then re-connecting may well have solved the problem. It is often this case you forget to do the simple things first to solve the problem, you update your GPU drivers do you re-boot a lot do not and can be the cause of some display problems. when installing anything re-booting allows the system to update the Registry. And the other programs and hardware on your PC.  Raymond Fry.
June 21, 2025Jun 21 Had this once. Took a while to find the fault. Turned out to be a dodgy 24 pin extension cable. Upon inspection I could see the burnt pins.Â
