FSX Thumbnail Store

Featured Replies

A bit of a dumb question I expect so apologies straight away.Just installed FSX on my new laptop running Vista after a break of over a year (so beginner again).I have installed a couple of extra airplanes and they are flying OK. However, had a problem with the thumbnails. One just had it greyed out and the other a completely different thumbnail to the airplane in question.I have installed aircraft manager and one of the airplanes now shows the correct thumbnail (the one that was greyed out) but the other refuses to change thumbnail and still shows a completely different airplane in FSX althoough aircraft manager shows the correct image.Have tried several times but get the same reult. The animated image when the airplane is selected is correct by the way. I downloaded fresh .jpg images of the aircraft(a WW2 De Havilland Mosquito) and put these in the texture folder as well as those included with the zip file.I believe that FSX keeps information on thumbnails in a central configuration store and wonder if this is the cause of the problem and how to check/edit.Although it's only a minor irritation I'd still like to get it sorted so if anyone can help I'd be grateful.

As best I know, FSX looks for a Thumbnail.jpg file in each texture folder. There may be some restrictions on the size/color, I do not know.Try moving a thumbnail file from a texture folder that does work, to the folder that does not show up, as a test, and see what happens.

As far as I know, the file must be named thumbnail.jpg and it must reside in the dir in which your other repaint texture files reside. If your thumbnail image file meets those specifications it should appear in your select aircraft menu.RhettFS box: E8500 (@ 3.80 ghz), AC Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64ASX Client: AMD 3700+ (@ 2.6 ghz), 7800GT
