I had to reinstall MSFS2020, with a final surprise.

Two days ago, widespread stutters suddenly began, rendering MSFS 2020 unplayable.

Thinking that the only installation I'd done a few days earlier was the Nvidia 576.88 driver, I reverted to the previous driver, but the stutters persisted even after deleting all the Community content, so the only thing left for me to do was reinstall MSFS2020.

After reinstalling MSFS2020 from Xbox, the stutters were gone, so I reinstalled everything in Community, running tests as I reinstalled the scenarios, and everything was fine, even installing the Nvidia 576.88 driver. I was back to the same configuration with which the stutters had started, but now they were completely gone.

The surprise was that on 😄 instead of the approximately 800GB available that I had on the 2TB SSD before the reinstallation, I went to have 1.3TB available so with approximately 500GB available more with the same MSFS2020 configuration both when it was working regularly and when the stutters started.

My "guess" is there are MarketPlace updates that have not been applied yet.  Have you applied all of the world updates?  That could easily be your missing 500GB

Did you have a manually set cache file?

Just some thoughts...

Have a Wonderful Day

Hi Paul,

Yes, I also reinstalled all the updates and scenarios in MarketPlace and manually configured the same cache I had before.

I ran tests and flights both yesterday and today and noticed no differences in the scenarios.

I had a strange mandatory update yesterday that I am pretty sure I had before. I re-imaged the FS drive and the image was smaller than the one from a day before. One of those odd FS things that can't be explained.

The only explanation I could come up with for why I have 500GB free on 😄 after installing MSFS2020 is this:

In my hardware configuration, I installed 4 X M2 SSDs, and all are bootable with Windows 11 from the BIOS.

MFSF2020 was installed on both 😄 and F:, where I used it as a backup.

On 😄 with Xbox, I first uninstalled and then installed, where only 😄 was available because the other M2 SSDs didn't have enough space.

The installation started normally with the 133GB download, and I subsequently installed all the updates on Marketplace and all the add-ons on Community.

What I think happened is that Xbox installed by rewriting all the MSFS2020 files not on 😄 but on MSFS2020 installed on F:, and then linked all the folders on C:, even though all the MSFS2020 folders on 😄 don't have the symbol that normally indicates they're symbolic links.

To check if this could have happened, I did this:

I booted from BIOS F: and removed the Asobo-aicraft-787-10 file in ...\LocalCache\Packages\Official\One store
Then I rebooted from BIOS 😄 and started MSFS2020, and a page appeared telling me I needed to update, which turned out to be the Asobo-aicraft-787-10 file I'd deleted on F:.

I don't understand why after I send the post, all those Emojis that I didn't add appear.

I don't understand why, after I sent the post ...C:\ was replaced with an emoji.

C:\

Excuse me, I was trying to replicate what @RobPol471 was experiencing but I accidentally pressed: Save
