We have already had something like this for about 10 years now, but they are not attached to the cart they are hand held you just grab one at the front of the store, scan your items as you put them in the cart, and it charges your card on the way out. All they are doing is attaching this same technology to a shopping cart with a bigger screen, but its still the same concept. Either way it is convenient but it does replace the checkout clerk

My kids like scanning items and putting them in the cart so it gives them the job instead of the store 🤣

 It automatically charges your card?

We have self-scan too, but  we have to approach a self scan checkout and scan a barcode then pay with our cards.

With ours you have to have an account to use them, when you put the scanner back you can close the transaction. Sometimes they do a second check but not very often, probably about 1 in every 7 visits but I suspect the system tracks good customers vs bad customers, so probably some get a second check far more often

We scan our items as we shop, then have to use the self checkout on the way out, scan the barcode with the scanner used to scan the food item, then pay with our cards.

Are you saying that for you, you just dock the scanner and thats it, it charges automatically without you having to do anything?

Same for us with periodic checks. They then check a given number of items in the trolley. If one hasn't been scanned a member of staff scans every item... which is a pain. 😆
