Update to the latest DLSS 3.10.3 which is known and confirmed to reduce VRAM usage.

I updated to this version using DLSS Swapper. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

    4K Ultra is definitely not viable for 16 GB cards. Probably your friends push DLSS upscaling to balanced or performance levels and use medium/high settings.

    "a 5090 is what you want".  You can run MSFS 2020 & 2024 on a £800 7900XTX 24gb like I do at 4k high/ultra settings with zero stutters and great framerates. Nvidia really do have a hold
