Need help new system

Featured Replies

I'm at a loss right now.  Just got a new Gen 5 system:

VENGEANCE a8200 Gaming PC: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, GeForce RTX 5080, 64GB DDR5, 4TB (2TB/2TB) M.2 SSD

Can't run MSFS 2024 in 4K.  It Vrams out on high settings and sinks to single digits on the frames.  Pretty much the same settings in MSFS as I was using on my 10900K and 3090.

Same settings in the Nvidia APP as well.  All drivers up to date.

At 2K it's fine.  Friends have lesser systems with the same 16gb Vram and can run just fine at 4K.  Can't figure out what's causing the problems.

Your 3090 has 24 GB, your 5080 has 16 GB... Time to turn the settings down a bit, so it will run in 16 GB?

  • 4K Ultra is definitely not viable for 16 GB cards. Probably your friends push DLSS upscaling to balanced or performance levels and use medium/high settings.

  • "a 5090 is what you want".  You can run MSFS 2020 & 2024 on a £800 7900XTX 24gb like I do at 4k high/ultra settings with zero stutters and great framerates. Nvidia really do have a hold

I'm running medium to high settings in 2K and I'm Vramming out.  I'm also in DLSS with frames cap at 60 and VSync on externally.

There's something externally going on and I can't figure it out.  And I should still be able to run 4K as well.  Lesser systems are with 11-16 gb vram range are running 4K and not having issues, no reason why I can't.

I wonder if I have a bad card.

I'm hanging on to my 3090 for the time being for exactly this reason - as I run triple screens (centre 4k, outers 2k) that also adds to the VRAM load.  Given the outlandish price and power demands of the 5090 (although they've dropped considerably) I'm waiting for the rumoured 5080Ti with 24GB.

The problem is also that with a nice new more powerful GPU you've got the grunt to up graphics settings, which further increase VRAM requirements.

Out of interest why a 9950X3D instead of a 9800X3D?  Do you have high-end productivity requirements as well?

Starting to wonder that myself.  Doesn't really matter, the CPU isn't even being used on MSFS...LOL.  The issue is I'm vramming out in certain circumstances for no reason.

Stick your 3090 back in for starters to see if it helps.  the 3090 was a great card... the 5080 is too but i dont think i would have swapped down to lose that much vram.  a 5090 is what you want (especially when buying a high end system imo)

What are your settings anyway?  What about addons?  any third party ones?  Addons from inibuilds really hit the vram - they look nice but use a lot of textures.

What about frame generation - are you enabling that?  HAGS needs to be on I believe.

You lost 8 gb of vram going from the 3090 to the 5080 though.  That extra vram is the one thing you don't want to lose running 4K.  If you know people running 4K with 16 gigs, not sure what settings and add-ons they run vs. what you run -- you do need to post your settings and your add-ons.  I have 1 add-on scenery that DESTROYS vram and I have 24 gb, I'm wondering if you might have a similar situation going on.  It's so bad that I basically can't run that scenery, which should not be the case with a 4090.

Nvidia really do have a hold over people. OP could have bought one, saved £200-250 quid on his 5080 and not be running out of VRAM.

I see so many posts on here with 4080s and 5080 users moaning about stutters and poor framerates.

Stop being blinded by Nvidia and their AI slop and joke pricing. They are not even trying anymore and people just lap it up.

And before anyone one says something stupid like I'm an AMD word not allowed or something, I also currently own 2 580gtx, a gtx 730, 3 970's, a 2080, 3070 and 6900xt.

My frames are great.  And at times the GPU is only being used about 30%.  I found out also that the new display driver restored everything to defaults.  I had to go back and fix those setting in the CP.  Also, it dropped frame gen and I can't get it back.  Going to try and re-boot with HAGs back on.  That got turned off also.

This has been a nightmare.  Vramming out in 2K though with medium sim settings is NOT right.

Are you using auto fps?

Do you have any airports etc that is causing a mem leak?

I have the same cpu and a gigabyte 5080 soon tpo be  a 5090. The 5080 will go to my son .

Lol got it cheap at 1800$ AUD

everything on ultra except texture reso on high in2020 thou.

I watch a few videos with people using a 5080 with complex aircraft and  airports .

High to medium settings and sim looks good and VRAM at 13gb

I don't think it's a mem leak or anything to do with the sim.  It might have been background apps were not set to 30 FPS; so when I clicked on the other monitor it was trying to rocket those FPS to the refresh rate (144), which might have been the cause of the vram issues.

On a side note, I got DLSS back.  HAGS was turned off in windows.  Turned that back on and now it's back.  I think when you install new display drivers, it resets your setting back to default.

Anyways, will try again here soon to see if I got everything back in order.  Either way, I don't think the issues is a sim or addon issue.

Framerate has nothing to do with VRAM usage. DLSS can help instead.
