August 1, 2025Aug 1 Hai, so like in topic - AutoFPS allows to set TLOD max way above 400, up to 1000. Msfs graphics settings menu goes until 400 only. Does it make sense to set the TLOD higher at cruise altitude? What would it do actually? I'm running the Sim on 7800x3d and rtx5090

I'm running the Sim on 7800x3d and rtx5090 Back in the days when I was using MSFS 2020 you could increase TLOD in the useropt.cfg file (if I recall correctly). I’m not sure if that’s still true in 2024 as I’ve been using AutoFPS since I’ve gotten back into it with 2024. Higher TLOD would help draw distant options like tree cover and photogrametry at further distances, and thus reduce pop-in. So it was desirable to run higher TLOD but not practical because it would tank your FPS when around a busy airport. AutoFPS is literally a game changer in that it gives you higher TLOD when it’s most helpful and you have headroom and then reduces it when you don’t need it and want max FPS for a busy airport. I'm running the Sim on 7800x3d and rtx5090 I did this for MSFS in 2021, you can still click the images and zoom in. The difference is there, but is it worth it? At the end of the day my conclusion was that the 200 setting was the most reasonable for every situation. FS2024 can be different but it's also much heavier, so even with AutoFPS if you are approaching a PG city or a large airport, when it comes into view you have a drastic reduction of framerate and stuttering as the sim loads the assets, and the utility may take a while to lower the TLOD and at that point you may have objects disappearing from the screen. You can try and let us know... 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
August 2, 2025Aug 2 That was pretty much the experience I had using AutoFPS and a high TLOD MrFuzzy. I have been getting smoother rusults using MSFS's built in system and have not used autoFPS for a few weeks now though. The sim is as smooth as it ever has been for me. One good thing about AutoFPS is that you can see what TLOD you are actually getting, unlike the built in system. August 2, 2025Aug 2 Author You can see TLOD factor of the ms 'dynamic setting' in dev mode / show fps (but then it takes a lot of screen space to display the info) TLOD 200 looks hideous from altitute. above 400 there are some visible differences but you have to look for them, im not sure how much is the gain vs performance Edited August 2, 2025Aug 2 by SimianFlu

For some reason the integrated Dynamic settings fails to restore the higher TLOD in cruise for me, causing blurred textures. Did you set it at 30 fps or 60 fps (with FG)? Did you set it at 30 fps or 60 fps (with FG)? Mine is set at 50. My Max FPS in the NVCP is set at 60 and my framerate is set at 30 in the usercfg. TLOD is at 250, OLOD is at 200 and I am getting 60 FPS nearly all the time using native 2X frame generation at 1440 rez. TBH, I'me not sure that I actually need to use AutoFPS or dynamic settings at all and have had them both turned off for a couple of days to see how it goes. Most of my MSFS2024 settings are on high except clouds and texture rez, which are at ultra I think. I'm always experimenting though, but this is where I am at this moment in time.
