PMDG 777 MSFS 2024

Featured Replies

Hi

I have finally taken the plunge and installed MSFS 2024, having used FSX since then and got used to it, I am finding it difficult to indeed get used to MSFS 2024.

I am using add-ons like PMDG 777 and find it really annoying you cannot have the 2D pop-out like the FMC, having asked PMDG they say that it is no longer been a feature since MSFS 2020.

I miss many aspects about FSX and find MSFS 2024 a bit overwhelming, therefore do you think MSFS 2024 will eventually allow the 2D pop-outs like the CDU etc?

I also use the CH Yoke, however again I cannot find ways of setting the way you look around the Flight Deck using the CH Yoke like I could in FSX, FS2024 seems more fidgety.

I also wonder if you are using Active Sky weather generator using historical weather, and you request the METARS and ATIS from the PMDG 777 ACARS, does it read live or historical weather at that time.

Thanks

It‘s rather unlikely. I got used to it in the meantime and make extensive use of the cockpit cams. I strictly fly in VR and use voice commands to switch between the different (up to 10) cams.

Are you referring to panning around the cockpit or some other way of switching views that you would like to map to your controls?

I don't own 2024, but moved to 2020 from P3D about a month after 2020 launch. MSFS is a much better sim than FSX/P3D but will take some getting used to. Stick with it and it won't be long before you won't consider going back to FSX.

A great solution as a substitute for pop-out 2-D panels is avia CDU. It makes it possible to run the FMC on a phone/tablet/laptop - it works very well. I own all the Boeing CDU's and overhead panels and CRJ CDU: https://www.aviaworx.com/avia-server

Another option is a hardware FMC which can be had rather inexpensively from WINWING. I have a 737 version and it is superb and uses a single USB connection - no separate GPU/monitor connection required. The 777 version is PFP-7: https://us.winwingsim.com/view/goods-details.html?id=985

A superior method for view control is: https://www.trackir.com/

Yes panning around indeed, just like I could in FSX.

Such a shame MSFS 2024 did away with the 2D Pop out.

Many thanks though for reponse.

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions, you are right about giving FS2024 ago and not to give up.

Be sure to take a look at aviaCDU FMC - I think it costs only about $10.00, and it really does work well and would be a great substitute for a 2D popout panel. It uses almost no system resources to run the server that links to MSFS and communicates with a phone/tablet/laptop.

One last thing I had failed to consider: in P3D I used a view control tool called ChasePlane by Parallel42. It was fantastic but it is available for MSFS 2020 only at this time, however, they are working on an MSFS 2024 version. When it becomes available I would strongly suggest you take a look at it. Assuming it works as well as it did in P3D, it would be simply marvelous.

You can pan around in the MSFS2024 cockpit, I do using my Bravo hat switch.  You just have to find the correct function and bind it.

You can pan around and up and down.. I use 4 bindings which move your view left, right, up and down.

I use a separate button to reset the view to forward.

I know there are a couple of different binding options, one for freely looking left for example, where you stay looking in the direction you have moved and another binding which makes you look left but swing back to the front view.

I'll find my bindings and get back.

Sorry I meant my HC Alpha hat...for panning freely around I have bound the following:

COCKPIT LOOK DOWN  to JOYSTICK POV DOWN

COCKPIT LOOK UP  to JOYSTICK POV UP

COCKPIT LOOK LEFT  to JOYSTICK POV LEFT

COCKPIT LOOK RIGHT to JOYSTICK POV RIGHT

and RESET COCKPIT VIEW to JOYSTICK BUTTON 2

You can also use the same type of binding when in external view.
