August 19, 2025Aug 19 The 'Yosemite Valley' add-on by Cli4D is now available for MSFS2024 (only) on certainly your favorite shop (Simmarket, Orbx Direct, flightsim.to, Contrail and even Patreon). Those lucky enough to have visited this iconic Californian park may recognize some of the trails... on foot! Unlike real life, you can explore below the 10,000 ft floor imposed by federal regulations in National Parks. Fun fact: the author (Cli4D) had started modeling the nearby Mariposa-Yosemite Airport terminal, noticed my free version, reached out, and shared his 3D model, now included for free in my freeware airport. Take off from KMPI, fly heading 040°, follow the Merced River, and in about 10 minutes you'll reach Yosemite. The two waterfalls, Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall, are along what is probably the most well-known trail leading to the Mist Trail. Definitely my favorite hike, barely 9 km, but it’s steep, with a 610-meters elevation gain - including a ‘staircase’ carved into the rock. One time, I did the return via the John Muir Trail, which offers a stunning view of Nevada Fall. Vernal Fall Footbridge’ is the first waypoint, 1.3 km into the trail. From there, you can see Vernal Fall, with the Mist Trail at its base beautifully recreated in Cli4D’s add-on. Everytime I get thru this trail, this first PoI is a neverending whaou. On top of Nevada Falls: From the valley, you get a view of Yosemite Falls. The trail is a 12 km round trip with 830 m of elevation gain. Legend has it that it's like climbing the Empire State Building three times by stairs because in terms of pure height, the Manhattan skyscraper only reaches the base of the upper fall. One day, after doing most of the tourist trail, we pick this one without really figuring out how hard it could be 🙂 4 or 5 hours climb with my wife and daughter 😉 Finaly reaching the top of Yosemite Falls: During one of my visits with my friend Bertrand, also a French PPL pilot, we stopped at El Capitan Viewpoint, by the Merced River at the entrance to the valley. On the left side of the images, you can spot the iconic El Capitan. I highly recommend the Oscar-winning documentary "Free Solo", where Alex Honnold climbs this massive wall in free solo style... no ropes, no protection... in just 3 hours. Normally, climbers who tackle the Freerider route; do it over several days Edited August 19, 2025Aug 19 by vbazillio Vincent B.
