The World Update next month is Japan which will include at a minimum Tokyo, Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Sapporo. Some of us got a sneak peak at the new Photogrammetry a few weeks ago due to Asobo making a mistake and making it available for a weekend. The Tokyo update is massive and includes many adjacent cities such as Yokohama. It’s quite stunning.

I am going to wait until after the World Update is released before considering purchasing this pack. I’m sure they will need to update it so I’m a little surprised they are releasing it now. The night lighting and animated billboards add a level of immersion, but after what I saw with the updated PG, this is definitely not an essential purchase unlike some of their other Asian packs where there isn’t PG available. And I already own their existing Tokyo pack so this new pack is incremental to it.

Releases like this always make me wonder.......just how many users of MSFS do not use PG? I suspect that it is rather more than most people like to think.

I usually purchase the city packs even if the city has PG. I fly helicopters and VFR a lot, so I like the visual fidelity while flying close. But the new PG has been very good so it’s becoming more difficult to rationalize the purchase.

I know some people turn off PG, but I doubt it’s a significant percentage of the overall user base. I suspect those who turn it off don’t have great PC specs or mostly fly airliners and don’t want the performance hit on final.

And just to clarify, every pack I have ever purchased works with PG on or off. So I always have Pg turned on even if I use a city pack.

Properly handcrafted buildings will beat photogrammetry, based on the quality of photogrammetry in 2025.  Maybe 20 to 30 years later, the photogrammetry quality will be much better because the technology has improved, but that's not possible today.  The photogrammetry for downtown Vancouver is acceptable in MSFS, but when Sam Scene 3D came out with a Vancouver City Times, it was an easy purchase for me because the handcrafted downtown Vancovuer buildings are so much better than the photogrammetry ones.

I haven't seen the new photogrammetry buildings for Tokyo yet, but if it's like the Vancouver photogrammetry buildings in MSFS 2020/2024, the Sam Scene 3D handcrafted buildings are at another level compared to the photogrammetry buildings, because I own Sam Scene 3D Vancouver City Times.

I couldn’t resist with the 25% discount for owners of their previous Tokyo pack, so I picked this one up. Looks fantastic! One of the very best city packs Samscene has released. Great for helicopter pilots with so many rooftops to land on! And the building colors blend very well with the PG. Definitely worth the purchase even with the Japan World Update coming in a few weeks.
